Robin Windsor's Choreography

Anyone else really like what he brought to the Quickstep tonight. yes, Patsy gubbed it by going off time straight away, but it was one of my favourite routines. Bit of a wild west Quickstep.

I didn't care for his Salsa or his Waltz, so I suppose I'm saying I find it very hit an miss, but he nailed it tonight. The theme, the music, the steps.

What do we think.

The sort of Wild West thing was a risk, but although I wouldn't want it to catch on, I thought he did a reasonable job of incorporating it.

The big risk was the speed, and that left no margin for error. Some of the training looked good and I think Tess commented that Patsy had done it better in rehearsals. Patsy seemed to immediately go from confident to distraught when she missed the first step, and she hasn't learnt yet to forget that and do the rest of the dance like it never happened.

If Patsy stays in long enough, I have a gut feeling that both of them can do quite well, but they both have to get it right. Patsy has to find the dance easy enough to have a margin so she can 'perform' - which I think will be one of her strengths.

They do seem to get on well, and that could be their saviour.

I haven't liked anything he's done so far I'm afraid. The waltz was probably beautiful choreography, but we didn't see it because i was so full of mistakes.

I hated the salsa, thought it was criminally over-marked and didn't enjoy it, although it was nice to see Patsy growing in confidence.

I thought the quickstep was far, far too risky. Patsy clearly struggled with the speed, so he could easily have taken some steps out or asked for the music to be slowed down. It just looked a mess. He needs to take a leaf out of the book of clever choreographers like Ola and Erin, who don't try to be overly flashy but work with what they have, and if that means devising a simpler routine to ensure their celebrity can cope with it, then they do so. No point in being overly flashy when it's never going to work!

I'm afraid I don't agree. I think his choreography is not well matched to Patsy's ability. That was particularly noticeable last night, she just couldn't keep up. In fact I wasn't even convinced by his performance, it looked as if even HE couldn't keep up at times! Nowhere near as good as Matthew or Ian for me I'm afraid. I feel for Patsy a bit, she needs some simpler choreo to show she really CAN complete a routine successfully and build some confidence.

The muffed opening was entirely the studio audience's fault. They should really shut up to allow the music to start and the dancers to hear the opening before they start their stupid din.

The TV studio technicians mute a lot of the audience noise by sliding their monitor controls about, but people in the audience have actually complained that there's too much noise at the beginning - or even all the way through. Patsy's face showed that she was straining to hear the opening beats - and dancers don't wear headphones.

The studio audience should be kept more under control.

I'm with you on this Mystic and even if Patsy missed her cue because the audience was loud, imho Robin should be aware of the prospect of things like that happening.

He should think more about his partner's ability and stop showing off. He'll learn the hard way.

I don't dislike him at all, but he still thinks like a performer and not a teacher, which is understandable as he is used to being the star, and not the other way around.

I loved Patsy and Robin's salsa. Great choreography (especially with so little time to train) and my favourite dance last week.

I enjoyed their waltz - I thought it was charming. As Karen Hardy said in Choreography Corner Robin was wise keeping her mainly in hold because she was so nervous.

I prefer more traditional ballroom routines so I have had to adjust to the new DWTS style of ALL the couples this year. I thought Robin's quickstep choreography was clever, but poor Patsy was completely thrown by being off time at the beginning. It was an ambitious routine but I think Robin was probably inspired by how well Patsy 'sold' the salsa last week - and he thought she could carry the quickstep off.

I think they are a great pairing and obviously get on really well. Hopefully they will be back next week - they will learn from this and deliver a more polished performance next time.

I like Robin and I like his choreography. Yes this week was maybe a little too challenging and experience will help to turn that around; but, it's great to see some fresh ideas!

PS Still miss Matt and Ian.

i really like Robin but he pushed patsy too far, she is not capable of dancing like that, if he had someone like Kara then yes.

Ive seen clips of him online and he is a very good dancer, he will learn and get the hang of it all

Its Gerard that is struggling with choreography, hope he does well next week if Tina is back

I'm not impressed with Robin. That was a ridiculous too fast quickstep for a learner . He doesn't seem to have much of a personality and whoever stuffed him into that suit should be shot.

I think Robin's still finding his feet. That Quickstep seemed far too ambitious for someone of Patsy's ability.

But it's a learning curve for the new pros as well as the celebrities and I'm sure Robin won't make the same mistake again.

I really, really like him as a person though. He and Patsy are coming across very well and are a real team.

I think Robin is on a learning curve & I suspect he will end up one of SCD's best loved pros in time.

The studio audience should be kept more under control.[/quote]

I was in the audience last night and they urged us to make as much noise as possible, especially at the beginning of the dance! Sometimes you don't always want to be whooping and hollering, but you sort of feel obliged to because everyone else is. What sheep we all are ! But you're probably right, I'm sure it did put Patsy off. By the way Patsy seems lovely, she seems to get on really well with Robin. You can tell who is getting on with whom when the cameras are off them.:

Those floor managers under orders from the SCD bosses make me so angry. The noise from the audience this series is getting unbearable . Last week we had another poster who was there saying the audience was told to stand and holler after every couple had danced. Thank goodness this week the undeserved standing nonsense was not so evident.
