It was announced as a tango 'unleashed', which it really didn't need to be, that's where complaints are coming from I think. Flavia and Vincent did about 10 seconds of tango, but the rest was definitely just a showdance

I did in no way mean that everyone who disliked it was a 'Len' or fuddy duddy...I feel really bad now I was only talking about those who are saying they don't like it purely because it is different! As for the bit in bold above, I think that as it was called a "tango unleashed" then that clearly says that it is not going to be a normal tango, it will be tangoesque.

After doing it all those times on Friday, they then did it again on Saturday for the results show.

Actually, I was quite surprised to see it in last night's show. I was under the impression that we'd something really exclusive on Friday...

Those dancers are super fit (in the health sense of the word, although the other sense naturally applies for all of them too!).

Had they called it a Showdance, I wouldn't have had as much of a problem with it, but they advertised it as a Tango. I was expecting a great Pro Tango display-they are usually my favourite Pro dances of the series- (including all of the Ballroom specialists!); instead, I had to watch Flavia play with string and writhe around for a few minutes.

I wouldn't say it was a tango, but it was certainly different. On its own merits, I actually quite liked it, thought it was unusual and, for prime time TV, quite innovative. As a tango? Nah.

I was just trying to clarify that I wasn't a traditionalist and was open to much more modern types of dance.

I think Flavia is a fantastic dancer and a gorgeous looking woman too. I just enjoy watching her dance, whilst the scarfs/bonds were more unusual, personally her tango is always just so fantastic to see, I would have rather seen a little bit more of it and a little less of the floor work. But then that is just totally my preference. I can appreciate that there are times she will want to choreograph something different.

My main gripe was with the catsuit. The sparkly top looked cute, but as molo flapian so wittily remarked, the bottoms were a bit remminiscent of j cloths!

I think the title of the dance confused people, like you say, people expected more of a tango then a showdance.

I suppose I just think it's funny that people are trying to explain why not everyone liked the dance, or even trying to explain why we should change our minds about it. For me it wasn't because it was shocking or because I didn't understand that it wasn't just a Tango. I didn't like it because I just didn't think it was very good!

However there was one move where one of the male pros chucked Flavia backwards over his head, which I did think was amazing.

I dint like it becuase every time I saw Flavia from behind I just couldnt take it seriously at all .

I agree, although I loved the dance, I do think I would have liked just a touch more tango than the little bit in the middle, but it is partially down to personal taste as to how much people will like this dance.

I do think it's good for the pros to break out of the strictly shell every now and then. And seeing as this was commissioned for a 3D advert in cinemas I can see how she maybe had to make it so...wow!




I see where you're coming from, it is a lot down to personal taste and what each person likes and doesn't like in a dance. And as much as I loved it, I can see how it could be unappealing or not so good for others. It may be forever known as the marmite dance!!

My mum and I both gasped in shock at that lift/throw! She couldn't even see where she was going...

I did, I just didn't particularly like the choreography or the staging of the dance. I wasn't expecting a normal tango, but I was hoping for a 'wow' showdance and it didn't do that for me.

Although I have to agree with Katie, that lift where she was thrown over i think it was James's head and possibly Robin's was fab

I thought the part where Artem caught her after being thrown over Robin and James was incredible because it could have gone very wrong.

The bare feet added to the organic feel of the dance. It definitely had that BTF feel.

I don't think I ever seen a pro dance that has had such polarized feelings amongst the fans. People seemed to have either loved it or hated it.

The closest comparison is probably Hanna and Victor's routines (which I actually quite like )

Just got around to watching it on iPlayer. You summed it up perfectly. Had it been advertised as a showdance you could forgive the muscle men showing off in their vests . Pulling Flavia with some string made a nonsense of the Tango, and I still love Flavia

Not that I would have called the dance 'tango'. I think that's part of the reason why I was disappointed by the actual performance - I was expecting 'tango', but it didn't really turn up.

If the routine had been called 'dance unleashed' maybe I'd have felt differently about it?

The throws were good, but my youtube salsa addiction means that I've seen too many tricks (that sounded ruder - on too many levels - than I meant it to be!).

I'm pretty sure I've posted this link before, but I still gasp at the throw at 1.14. And, even though it looks like it's taking place in a local community centre, the couples involved have been salsa champions and runners up. (And their feet really do move that quickly!).

But, going back to the point of my post , I do think that you hit the nail on the head with your analysis/interpretation of what the dance was all about.

I feel sad that SCD is going down this route this year the dances look very like on Dancing with the stars.
Jimmi and Matt's Foxtrots last week although brilliant looked more like Tangos to me. Michelle is not a good dancer but Brendon did a traditional foxtrot.

Len just doesn't know what to say after that....

I love Flavia's dancing and choreography, and applaud anything innovative and interesting, but...

...no, I didn't like it. It was marginally better to watch the second time around, particularly after Buddy's plausible explanation of the theme, because the first time I saw it I came over all feminist and saw four guys dressed in wife-beaters throwing a roped woman around. Sorry, but I was offended. The middle part of the dance was fine, the lifts were great and that bit where Robin throws her negligently over his head was spectacular but, overall, it gets the thumbs down from me.

Me neither! That outfit was possibly the worst ever on Strictly.
