I think people are making too much of it. We have to remember that it is all in the context of Saturday night and the comments that had been made just a short while earlier rather than a whole 24 hours later.
Paul looked ragged tired to me and was put on the spot; not the best circumstances to elicit wit. He ad-libbed, no it wasnt hugely funny but it was not derogatory in the way some are making it out to be. All this thanking the pro business, gets on my wick anyway. Shouldnt the pros thank the Celebs for raising their profiles outside of the dancing niche? No. Because it is a partnership. Edit: If partners wish to thank each other on exit, fine. Making it obligatory, which Tess does when she brings it up every week, just takes any sincerity out of the process anyway. |

Poor Ola - I really liked her last year and as people have said she was very gracious in defeat.

He didn't even thank her! Ola is a strong woman, but she seemed very tamed and wary of him and showed no signs of putting her foot down with him like she did with the very nice Chris last year.
I think that shows what Paul is like! I'm glad he's gone too but wouldn't have minded him staying only for the laughs! |

Looks Like Paul Threw His Toys Out Of The Pram About The Yoda Comment Too!

He's always been a sleazy old perv. Nowt new there. I bet Ola is quite glad she doesn't have to endure him now...
It looks like he threw his toys out of the pram about the Yoda joke from bruce as well. That apology was serious I think but Bruce left it looking like a joke still with another jokey comment at the end but did you notice the camera did not go to him and Ola for their reaction like they always do? It went straight into the VT of their training. |

Paul wasn't nearly as 'orrible as I'd expected him to be. He knew he'd be dreadful, but he had a go anyway. Fair play to him. He's been married to Debbie since dinosaurs roamed the earth and, bless her, she laughed dutifully at his woeful attempt at a humorous exit line. I doubt anybody was offended by the remark, least of all Ola, and it was clearly a dig at Craig for his silly comments about Paul ogling Ola during the rumba. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what you're supposed to do in a rumba?

I'm amazed he hasn't retired. He doesn't need the money so why not take it easy and enjoy life? Maybe his way of enjoying himself is by being on telly and then some if ya get me.

You should read wiki on him.

It was a joke or is a sense of humour deemed inappropriate these days , by all , or just those over a certain age ? Oh and his wife was in the audience .

Ola wasn't even given a chance to speak. And most of the pros don't need their profiles raised by the celebs, they're recognised in their own right for their talents. And I find it quite sad that thanking someone for helping you learn a new skill is seemingly to be frowned upon when it's just common courtesy. |

Unfortunately Paul lived up to all my expectations with his parting comments. It was yet another example that he hadn't got a clue what is expected of him at that moment. It was bad enough that he admitted he had never even watched the show and didn't realise that his pro partner was the reigning champion. He clearly didn't hear what Goldie said about Kristina last week or any of the praise the other celebs have been heaping on their pros.
I also didn't like him saying on the Alan Titchmarsh show that Ann was John Sergeant in drag. So glad he is out of the show. |

I actually found myself feeling really sorry for Ola these last few weeks. I get the impression she really was trying to get on with Paul and try to do her best with him, but he just treated the whole thing, and her, like a joke.
I'd have much more respect for him if he behaved like Peter or even Ann - well aware that he isnt very good, but still giving it a go. |

Well at least he kept his hands to himself. Anyone remember Dominic Littlewood's final dance with Lilia where he went on to grope her shamelessly before her husband Darren Bennett came and yanked her away from him. There's a streak of lecherousness overall in the show (Bruce with his innuendoes/Bruno with his innuendoes/Len and his innuendoes). I imagine James put PD straight when the cameras weren't rolling though

wow. Lots of people projecting motives onto Paul when they can't possibly know, not to mention making outrageous slights.
I met him and the lovely Debbie years ago when I worked in a theatre and they came to see the show. He was the most unstarry celeb and didn't want any preferential treatment (unlike most). I've always been kindly-disposed to him since. |

I really didn't mind Paul, and although the comment was a bit unfortunate, it could have been that he was very tired and thus came just out with any old rubbish. I'm sure he is going to thank her privately, and although Ola looked sad, she didn't look like Lilia with Dom.

I thought Ola looked almost maternal (or at least protective) towards Paul when the marks came in in the Tess Tower during the live show. I was surprised at her attitude to him because I'd read so much here about how much she is meant to have disliked the experience of working with him.
His farewell comment was just a joke that didn't work in my view. |

his fairwell comment as a joke sucked and left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths. if nothing else it must have made his chances of working on the tele again even more remote. He came across as asomeone out of touch with common courtesy and rspect towards women and not someone who could be trusted to do live tele again

None of his jokes really worked, I'd say, but in a much more harmless way. (Have his jokes ever worked, though? )
