Although my musical knowledge is a bit selective these days, I knew the music scene well enough in the 80s to decide my likely 40 least favourite songs at the time. A few were in a sense quite classy but they somehow brought back bad memories for me. In some cases I like other songs by the artists concerned. Anyway, in roughly chronological order they are as follows:

Hot Chocolate:- No Doubt About It
Michael Jackson:- She's Out of My Life
Korgis:- Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime
Abba:- The Winner Takes It All
St Winifred's School Choir:- There's No-one Quite Like Grandma
Ennio Morricone:- Chi Mai?
Michael Jackson:- One Day in Your Life
Hot Chocolate:- Started With a Kiss
Haircut 100:- Nobody's Fool (no 3 worst)
David Essex:- A Winter's Tale

Keith Harris & Orville:- Orville's Song (no 1 worst)
Wah:- The Story of the Blues
Daryl Hall/ John Oates:- One on One
FR David:- Words (no 2 worst)
Spandau Ballet:- True
Jo-Boxers:- Just Got Lucky
Tina Turner:- Let's Stay Together
Aztec Camera:- Oblivious
Kid Creole & the Coconuts:- The Lifeboat Party
Culture Club:- Victims

UB40:- Many Rivers to Cross
China Crisis:- Wishful Thinking
Bluebells:- I'm Falling
Bryan Adams:- Run to You
Paul Young:- Every Time You Go Away
Rah Band:- Clouds Across the Moon
Philip Bailey/ Phil Collins:- Easy Lover
Marillion:- Kayleigh
Damned:- Eloise
Claire & Friends:- It's Orrible Being in Love

Terence Trent D'Arby:- If You Let Me Stay
Desireless:- Voyage Voyage
Glen Madeiros:- Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You
Tracy Chapman:- Fast Car
Michael Jackson:- Dirty Diana
The 4 Tops:- Loco in Acapulco
George Michael:- Kissing a Fool
Freiheit:- Keeping the Dream Alive
Con Can:- I Beg Your Pardon
Bros:- Too Much

Agree with most of those; would add anything by Whitney Houston, Annie Lennox and Shakin' Stevens to the list.

Thank you for basically agreeing Ohglobbits. There are a few songs by the 3 singers you mention that I didn't like. Ironically though, Love Will Save the Day, Who's That Girl? and This Ole House were among my fave songs of the decade in fact.

The less said about Clare & Friends the better!

I do not like ABBA's "The Winner Takes It All" either - one of the most miserable sounding things and a far cry from some of their better work. I'm not a big fan of "One of Us" either.

Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen (played too many times)

Dead Or Alive - That's The Way (I Like It) (poor cover version IMO)

Nick Berry - Every Loser Wins
Adam Ant - Puss 'N' Boots
David Bowie & Mick Jagger - Dancing In The Street (love David Bowie but do not like this cover version one bit)

Bucks Fizz - Land Of Make Believe
Goombay Dance Band - Seven Tears (granny's favourite!)
Donna Summer - This Time I Know It's For Real
Big Fun - Blame It On The Boogie

The Story Of The Blues is an awesome track!

And no 'Power Of Love' by Jennifer Rush, or 'Lady In Red' by Shit De Burgh?

Agree with that. It's probably one of the best tracks of the 80's.

Worst track would have to be Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns 'n' Roses just because it's utter sh**e!

I agree about "Story of the Blues".

Good (and different) song.

"Many Rivers to Cross" and "Fast Car" were excellent too.

"Come On Eileen" became the 'Part Closer' in the 80s - much as "Hi Ho Silver Lining" had been in the 70s. The last tune to get up and dance to before the final 'smoochie' one.

Stock, Aitken and Waterman could fill the bottom 100 with their repetitive rubbish.

The only record I remember really hating at the time was probably "Come On Eileen", and that was because it was always being played everywhere.

Most of the other crap stuff (like s/a/w) I didn't really have strong feelings about, because I just avoided listening to it - but it felt like it was impossible to avoid Dexys Midnight Runners no matter where I went!

Don't agree with Haircut 100, G Michael or Culture Club songs picked. No way they were the worst of the 80s. I can even appreciate the Abba song is a classic and not in anywhere near the same league as some of the truly worst stuff from the 80's. 90% of SAW and the Novelty acts/songs

its a travesty that dexys are remembered for "come on eileen" ... jackie wilson said aint much better, but their seminal album 'searching for the young soul rebels' is one of the best albums of the 80's with tracks like 'geno', 'dance stance' and 'there there my dear' being class tracks/singles.

Too many to pick from (and too many i've tried to blot out of my mind form the musical wasteland that was the mainstream charts in the 80s), but I would be happy never to hear again

Love Plus One - Haircut 100
Ride On Time - Black Box
Especially For You - Jason & Kylie
Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley
Touch Me - Sam Fox
Sussidio - Phil Collins
Anything featuring the 'talents' of Timmy Mallet, Pat & Mick or similar Tw*ts
The Final Countdown - Europe
Lady In Red - Chris De Burgh
Move Closer - thankfully can't even remember who sang that

I agree. Anthing that SAW produced from 1987 onwards! Repetitive crap!

And anything by Bros.

To be honest the pop charts went right downhill in the late 80s. I love early 80s pop.

Sussudio...good call. Truly grating. I couldn't stand 'Mama' by Genesis either.

And just to taunt you...I think it was Phylis Nelson moving closer.
