So if Paul had 3, and Michelle 6....does that mean.....Paul had 1 from the voters and Michelle either 2 or 3?

Paul had 1 from the judges and he didn't neccessarily have to have 1 from the public to be the contestant with the lowest overall score.

Paul could've gotten up to 3 points from the public, and Michelle only 1, for things to end up the way they did. It's hard to figure at this point.

I don't think Paul only had 1, since there were a few ties, and those points go up instead of down, the way they did before the Tom fiasco.

Not at all. You really have to work through the scores of all the contestants to get any feel for what the results might have been, and ideally compare them with what might have been the previous week in the hope the public might be consistent in their voting, regardless of performance. However without trying too hard we can certainly say that all of Ann, Gavin, Patsy and Jimi must have beaten Michelle, and Ann must have beaten Paul. Paul may well have beaten Michelle, possibly even by two points (but not by any more than that). It might even be the case that neither Michelle or Paul were in the bottom two with the public.
