The 1960s - The Beatles,Tamla Motown and much more

I think the 1960s was an amazing, wonderful time for music with the beatles and all the other bands coming out of the uk and accross the pond all the amazing music and groups coming out of motown and stuff. there is some good stuff around now (and i don't mean justin bieber!) but the music from those times was really special, i wish i'd been alive at the time. who agrees?

i was a boy in the 60's but remembers the upbeat vibe there was amongst the young. pop as we know it was created in the 60's and groups were not so focused on money/fame as playing/creating music for the love of it. thats why you got so many differing styles, with many groups trying to out-do their contemporaries. the mid 60's were vibrant and exciting.

I wasn't born in the 60s but Mototnw was (and still is) the business. 'Behind a Painted Smile' by The Isley Brothers is one of the best tunes ever!

I find it second nature to listen to some oldies shows including some that specialise in 60s music. On Saturdays from 9pm to 1am there is a 60s show on BBC Radio Leeds, Sheffield, York and Hull presented by Diana Luke, which I sometimes listen to (through Radio Sheffield). On Sunday lunchtimes there is a Music that Time Forgot with mike Wallbank on Tameside Radio featuring about 20% 60s music.

I know about Sound of the Sixties and thought you might tume in Rob. In practice I usually go out before it would end so prefer to listen to another show then, but am impressed that Radio 2 have kept SOTS going all this time.
