Anyone here bought one or both of these this week? Both are great albums and will be Top 10 in the new album chart on Sunday, with Blue, 1967-1970, being highest, in the Top 5. I have them both on CD, the '93 releases, but wondered if the new 2009 remastered sound is actually that much better. I prefer the red one but the blue always charts higher!

I've still got my original 1973 vinyl versions

All non-album Beatle songs came out on the two Past Masters CDs before the Red & Blue collections were available, so I bought them. But as a greatest hits package, the Red & Blue sets are virtually unbeatable. The only flaw is the lack of Revolver tracks, but that's a minor quibble.

Believe me, the re-masters DO sound a heck of a lot better. Every single song sparkles, they put so much effort into the re-mastering project.

Just bought the Blue album but haven't had a chance to listen yet. Some great tracks on there.

EMI never tire of re-releasing The Beatles stuff, and a gullible public never tire of being shafted with overpriced CDs.

I bet they are still flogging With The Beatles and Please Please Me at full Album CD price.

Just ordered the Past Masters double CD as I want to hear some of these re-masters for myself and don't have it already.

Some people value music, and don't think that paying full album price for a full, remastered classic album is some great scam.

Indeed Richard. I bought all the Beatle albums on vinyl and cassette years ago. Then I shelled out on the first lot of CDs. I'm certainly not going to buy this current batch. I don't like the polished sound of these tracks, I prefer the original CDs. The Beatles were around when technology wasn't too accomplished - they only had eight track recording available to them right at the end of their career on Abbey Road. Adding the sheen of 21st century know-how to those classic old songs does them a disservice IMO. I much prefer the original studio sound, as it's an accurate reflection of 60s limitations.

No doubt in ten years time The Beatles' catalogue is going to be due for another overhaul.

It's the band's management's fault, not EMI's. That's why those 60 minute compilations are spread over 2 CDs.

I think you're talking out of your hat - these are the first upgraded CDs of the original studio albums Apple/EMI have put out since 1987! That's hardly caning it.

Fans had been demanding remasters for well over 10 years as analogue to digital conversion technology has come a long way since the 80s. What the engineers do with the improved digital transfers in terms of eq, compression etc, and whether listeners prefer the results is a matter of taste.

I usually prefer the 'quieter' older CDs, but the Beatles upgrades are definitely an improvement imho.

Wont bother with these, as I bought the remastered box set last year, and it is fantastic. There is a step up in quality that has been worth the wait.
