Another engineer is telling me that the brackets to fit a new quad lnb to an old sat dish are no longer available and he needs to fit a second dish. That sound right?

If not , anyone recommend a sat fitter who deals with Oxfordshire area?

It's a round 80cm mesh dish. I can take a photo if you like.

then i don't see a problem. Imagine any 40mm collar lnb designed for a round dish will fit. With a dish that size it should be easy to get a great signal from Astra2/Eurobird 1. Unless you live like in the outer hebrides

I forgot you wish to retain your existing satellites

I'd better start a new thread as I'm going off my own topic here.

Thanks for your help.

No luck with the other (German channels) so far.[/QUOTE]

You can find a listing for all the channels @ 19.2º E on this website: http://www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html
The pre-installed transponder list on the Humax is not complete (and couldn't be as channels come and go) so you won't find a lot of channels when you do a general search. Like the 'Das Eerste HD' channel, you will have to add the parameters manually before tuning. Servus HD is on 11303 H 22000 2/3 DVB-S2 8PSK.
Loads of radio channels and some transmitting in much higher bit rates than UK channels - Klassik Radio uses 256 kbps (BBC Radio 3 192 kbps) and some are even on 320 kbps. Sure your wife will appreciate them.

So eventually I found a sat man to do the job and I'm now fully freesated up. After using it for a week now I hqve to say I love it. Iplayer is a revelation. HD is cool. Recording simples.

The remote could be better (skip and play buttons are far too small) but I hqve programmed it up to control my tv and my xbox meaning I got a free multicontrol

One problem I hqve is surround sound. The optical in of my 5.1 sound system is taken by my xbox (which is alsoy DVD. Player). Is there any kind of switch I can buy to feed two optical cables into the one reciever?

Yes. Maplin do a cheap manual 3-way switch for example. But the amount of digital surround sound currently being broadcast on Freesat (a small number of BBC programmes such as Later with Jools Holland - now finished) is miniscule so you may as well not bother.

Has your system got a coax s/pdif free ?. If so optical to coax converters aren't expensive.

I have a 5 way switch which works well but it's a pain in the a**e to get up & switch it. Does anyone know of a remotely controlled switch to suit a lazy old woman?

Thanks a lot Graham, but I've always said that excercise is good for you. They will come down in price as they get more widespread, hopefully before I'm too old to care.

Larry,

Assuming your Xbox and your HDR are plugged into your telly via HDMI, then why not use the optical cable to go from the tv into the amp - works for me with the DVD player as well!

And yes, it is worth it if only for the few programs that BBC broadcast in DD 5.1

Really? The tv optical out will feed 5.1 tO the amp via hdmi?

Oh here's a thought. I wonder If that will cause any lag? At the moment, when I play the music singing game Lips on the xbox there is this horrible lag via hdmi. With rock band I can switch to the 5.1 amp and there is no lag. Wondering if rock band has to to via hdmi to get to the amp I'll see the dreaded lag again.

5.1 input by hdmi is rarely output as 5.1 from a tv's s/pdif socket. It's generally downmixed to stereo lpcm. A very few newer TV's will pass through 5.1.
