Depends which pvr you are talking about. Generally pvrs don't have the OS on the HDD it's stored in NV Ram. Thats why you can put a 1TB drive in a Foxsat-hdr and the box will format it for you and it will just work.
If it's the SKY+ box there is a utility to transfer existing recordings to a new drive and preformat it. |

Thanks for your assistance chaps its a Sony SVR-S500 so as you say the o/s is stored I should be able to manage the upgrade with this uefull info. I was worried the lack of EPG updates would complicate matters.
Cheers George. |

It's a dvdr not a pvr and therefore it's entirely possible the OS is on the HDD
If it's been correctly updated (via RS232) then the OS is in the internal memory of the unit, if it's only been updated via an OTA update then it's stored on the HDD, and loaded each time the unit is booted. However, these units no longer have any EPG information broadcast, so it's probably not worth messing about changing the HDD anyway?. If the OP really wants to, if he PM's me I'll advise him how to go on. |

Sorry, Graham, that's totally incorrect - it's a PVR, NOT a DVDR. It's actually a Digifusion Freeview unit badged by Sony.

My mistake I googled the model and it came up with a dvd recorder.
![]() Having said that, it was free because one of the tuners is duff - so I've never used it at all, although I did update the software to cure the noisey fan problem they had. Unfortunately the tuners are actually part of the main board, and the repair process is to get a replacement PCB from Sony. |
