Just got it:

O2: You've recently been enjoying free MMS with the new iPhone software. From 25th October 2010, an MMS will be charged at 20p as part of your normal tariff. More info at www.o2.co.uk/iphonemms
Hang on a minute... I signed up for a 24 month contract 12 months ago and I get to send MMS out of my text allowance (4 texts = 1 MMS).

Surely they can't do this mid contract? I do send a fair few MMS and this change will increase my bill.

Cheers

I'd ring them to clarify if I was you. I can't think of any contracts where you get free MMS now, I think hardly anyone uses it, it's all upload to Facebook/Flickr now

Yes I have had this text as well. I am on a 30 day sim and they have only gave 3 days notice so I will be calling O2 tomorrow to check this out.

If you go on the O2 official forum a guy from O2 says the new ruling only applies to to contracts started from June 24th so should not effect me unless rolling contracts are excluded.

My mother and brother both have iPhone 4 contracts with Orange which includes 50 free MMS messages a month, so some still have them. And that O2 help link does say MMS is included with some tarrifs

facebook, flickr for the kids. Mms and email for the grownups.

I hate it when the mobile companies change their terms mid contract

Just get the ImageShack app on your iPhone and then link that to your friends in a normal text.

Or Facebook it.

MMS is useless anyway - email and the stuff I've mentioned above is where it's at. 4 Text messages to send an image that can be sent free by email? O2 can piss off.

iOS 4 allows people to send MMS up to 2MB in size, which is larger than before. These were free on O2 for a period until now. They are now back to being chargeable at your normal rate. Of course, the normal rate might be included in bundle.
