Thanks for the heads-up. I've been watching The Crimson Petal on TV, so now I have the novel it's based on for £1.47. Cheers.

I really wish they didn't have this sale on - I managed to download 11 in just 15 mins at lunchtime!

I've bought 11 so far aswell. I'm trying not to have a proper look through that list because I don't want to spend anymore money.

You said you got two books, getting them at a discount. Can't be that much of a swiz. Don't gay people read books other than what you term "gay books"?

Shadow

There are a few more I'm thinking about, but none of the football ones!

Was it only me, or did there appear to be a disproportionate number of books of the football genre?

I've been through the list properly now and found another 3 I might want. I've added them to my wishlist now, so I'll have a think about it. I found the selection of books in this sale to be much better than those on sale during the 12 days of Xmas one last year.

Trouble is most of these are avail illegally, so for people who really want a complementary copy have no option but to download from a dodgy site

I highly recommend Ordinary Thunderstorms by William Boyd. I bought it when it was full price, only read about four chapters, but already hooked!

When it comes to harry potter I'd much rather have the official version. Even if I have to wait 2 years... It's all about the Magic!

Thanks for the heads up on this! I was just thinking to myself the other day 'I wish I had more money so I could buy more books for my Kindle'... I'm strapped for cash at the moment but this offer is brilliant! It means I can get a few books now for a really cheap price! I'm going to have a browse now

I'm still not tempted to actually spend money on books - so far I have over 100 free books, with more being added each week.

Does anyone know why Stephen King's The Stand is no longer available in Kindle format?

I have found several good collections of short stories on the kindle, find them easier to read on the kindle than full length novels..... mainly ghost and paranormal stories

Collections by M. R. James, H. P. Lovecraft, Arthur Machen, Lord Dunsany and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle can all be had for free from Project Gutenberg and/or Feedbooks.

I downloaded the Kindle for PC application out of curiosity a few weeks ago. I was a bit wary of the Kindle so I didn't want to fork out so much cash to not like it. So far, I like the convenience of downloading books instantly (very useful for writing an essay last-minute!) but after that it falls short for me. I just find it hard to concentrate on reading long sections of prose on a screen - I got through a few short stories but I don't think I would stick with anything longer.

I've just finished an Eng Lit degree so it's not that my attention span is bad when reading; I'm sure it's just reading from a screen that bothers me. It's a shame because I wanted to like it (Books in a flash? Yes please! ) but am struggling to Does anyone find that the actual Kindle is better in this respect? I've read about the lack of harsh backlighting which I suppose would help.

I downloaded the PC app too and couldn't get away with it easier. But I am in love with my Kindle.

Using an actual Kindle is so different to reading a computer screen. With a screen, even a laptop, it (and you) is usually in one position. With a Kindle you are able to move around in just the same way as you would by holding a book.

Also, e-ink used by the Kindle is much more restful than using a back-lit computer screen.

Finally, as a Kindle only holds books, there is not the distraction always present with a computer, where you might suddenly decide to check your e-mails etc.
