Motor Industry Research Association is what springs to mind but I don't suppose that makes sense in this context.

Well technically an imprint of Harlequin. I'm guessing they do a lot of romance, as those publishers and imprints seem to attract readers who click with a certain style and will buy more books from the same publisher.”

Thank you , I was starting to wonder if it was a rights thing with the books being so cheap for the Kindle, but that didn't seem right either.

Anyone else used the newspaper subscriptions?

Been on the free trial for the Telegraph and have been enjoying reading 'the paper' on the Tram on the way in to work, looks like it could be worth the £10 a month.

I spotted an ad in today's paper that the Kindle is now in Currys and PC World. Handy, because I can now go and have a look at it before buying.

I've been using mine since Christmas now and I'm still very impressed. Transferring books from PC & PDFs to Kindle is the same as transferring files to a memory pen.
I much prefer reading on Kindle to books. The clarity of text is excellent. I purchased a case to put it in that also functions as a stand - works well. Best gadget I've had for years.

I download The Independent through Calibre for free on to my Kindle. Try it out, It takes about 6/10 mins to download. You can also download the Telegraph.

Bye for now,

Love mine but the free books mean that I keep down loading books still it is smaller than a large to read pile.

Just got mine (finally!) yesterday and loving it so far.

Quick question (I am probably being thick). Is there a way to search on Amazon for Kindle Books by price? Basically, to see what's going for less than a quid?

The best way I know is go to Kindle Store (top left) then click on e-books(under Kindle Store title) and then on the left is a box that says Great Finds in Kindle Books for under £2. From those you can choose the category of book you want to see and look for the best offers.

I have just downloaded the free kindle app on my mobile, i think you can get the app free for the ipad. I know the screen is smaller than a proper kindle but i'm still quite impressed with it, plus the books are cheaper than for my other Sony e-reader

Go to the category of book you're looking for then click on the drop down menu (on the right) price low to high.
This will then bring up the books lowest price first.

Or in e-books type in -domain then click low to high and then you will get all the free books, usually about 5 pages of them.

Anyone thinking of getting one,
Had mine 3 months now, early Christmas gift, never had so many books, and to be able to read (free sample all kindle books) before you buy is brilliant have 140 free samples to plough through, and to browse, buy, and be reading a few mins later is great.. loads of free, and starting from 72pence upwards. not to mention being able to take all my books out with me, don't even have to have my pc on, just download from the kindle, fantastic peice of kit. can even download via email your photo's etc etc

Down side I've since had to buy my husband one, and now my son is after one
Would advice to buy from amazon as their after sales service is 2nd to none ...
its my best buy ever ... love it ....

ebooks on Amazon US now outselling paperbacks. Interesting!! Too easy to buy whether on Kindle, phone or tablet.
Quote:
“Amazon has announced that in the US it sold more e-books for its Kindle device than it sold paperback books in the last three months of 2010.”

Picked mine up this morning. Was going to order it from Amazon but checked my local Currys to see if it was in stock. And it was! I must say I am in love with it already.
It feels very comfortable to hold and pressing the button to turn the page has become second nature already.

I'm a very happy bunny

No doubt Amazon are making a lot of cash selling Kindles but what happens when everyone had got one?

Do you think people will keep paying for Kindle downloads?

How many people pay for MP3s for their MP3 players?

You couldn't pirate paper books, Amazon have sabotaged their own business.

Could you post a link to those sites please ?

Question for anyone who can help ...........Is there a quick way to scan forward in a Book ?

What I mean is can I quicky " jump " from say 25% to 75% without having to keep pressing the page forward button ?

Thanks in advance

Hi Mystic,
Go to the Amazon site...then the Kindle section and e-books (where you buy your books) I do this on my laptop.
At the top there's a button that says "discussions" then all the threads will come up.
The Kindlers Anonymous reference is a joke thing we say we belong to as we don't seem to be able to stop buying books.
The threads are there for anything to do with the kindle and e-books.
Quite often the authors are on there and we can chat to them or get recommendations.

As to your question about moving forward in a book -
Some books have chapters marked...if it does you can use the right switch on the 5 way to get to the next chapter.
If there aren't chapters marked you'll have to click on the Menu button...then Go to...and then put in a location number.
Sometimes there is a Table of Contents in a book and you can navigate from that.

Hope all this helps and if you've got any more queries you can always ask on the discussions...one of us will try to help.

there are those that will pay - no matter what the price

there are those that will pay - if the price is considered fair (me!)

and there are those that will not pay anything at all....

i travel a lot, and have Sony PRS600, and now have over 600 books on there, some free, some paid for.

This won't be the "last" Kindle. This is the third generation of the device, and you can be sure there will be a fourth, and a fifth... Some people will see the next generation model and immediately want to upgrade, as happens with mobile phones, computers, iPads...

Yes, absolutely. There are a lot of free books out there but the majority are out of copyright (e.g. classics) so those who want the latest titles will have to buy the books, unless they find illegal downloads.

Originally Posted by doom&gloom:

I do. I also buy CDs and then convert these to MP3s so I can put them on my iPod. I don't download illegally, ever.

In what way? People who buy Kindles are by and large book lovers. Book lovers read a lot. We buy books. We bought books in print (and some of us still will, despite also owning a Kindle) and we will continue to do so, simply because we love to read.

I recently downloaded about 12 £0.00 books from the more recently released books (the ones on offer at the moment for free, not the out of copyright ones). Some are ok, some are pretty strange... I'm finding 'Painless' a very strange book and somewhat egotistical and badly written. Possibly painful to read, ignore the pun.

I absolutely adore my Kindle though! has it since november-ish and I'm never without it!

ePublishing caused that virtually anybody can publish a book. On one hand it's good that more books get published and that a potential masterpiece won't end up unpublished, because a publisher did not want to take a risk. On the other hand, a complete rubbish may get published, too. Luckily enough, epublishers usually allow to sample a chapter or two from a book, so one can check before spending money on it.

No I'm talking about the £0.00 books that are new bestsellers quality etc. Amazon have about 12 currently for £0.00 on kindle as a special offer. £6-£12 in paperback...
