Update – HTC Desire HD Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
You can now download the latest software update for new features and improved performance. It won’t delete any of your content and we’d recommend using a Wi-Fi connection as this is a large update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. Any questions? Contact us via www.htc.com. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Software number will be 1.32.405.3

I'm guessing those with branded handset will be pulling their hair out right about now

I'll download it shortly.

Any ideas of the fixes?

Yeah, I saw that on their website, but I don't have a problem with either. More detail from them would have been nice

Do any branded phones even exist?

(like with the Desire, some networks were handing out unbranded/SIM-free phones at the start of its release)

From past experienc and what I have seen in store recently, all 3 phones tend to come 3ified...

When the Desire was first released (and when I got one from 3, in about June/July) a couple of networks were handing out unbranded versions.

Perhaps it will be the same this time - even more so if a firmware version for 3 has not been approved by HTC/Google.

Networks like Vodafone and TMobile are sending out branded handsets to their customers if they ordered direct from them. This may also explain the few days extra in waiting for networks to release the handsets themselves while sim free ones have been on sale for a few days now.

Anyone with a branded handset will struggle to get this OTA update and it certainly fixes things and is a necessity in my mind, which is why I insisted on an unbranded handset for this very reason!

Fixes I've noticed so far,

Gallery displays all photos in less than a second, before the update it was taking around 30-40 seconds!

Desire HD no longer experiences slows downs and lock ups where you have to pull the battery to fix it.

Slight speed up again, possibly related to the above fix.

No more keyboard lag.

None of this is officially announced, this is just what I've noticed in terms of the problems I was having when I bought my Desire HD and the fact that these problems have now been fixed since installing the OTA update this morning.

Now if you've got, or are getting, a branded handset you'd better hope the OTA update has been approved by your network provider or you could be living with the above for a good while (see how long it took to release the 2.2 update on some networks when unbranded users got theirs as soon as HTC released it!)

Vodafone have held their release back until Monday 25th, I spoke to them yesterday apparently they had to apply this software update before shipping, or so I am told.

Makes a lot of sense, the update really does improve the handset.

Does seem a lot faster and screen seems far more stable at the touch
