Move from O2 to T-Mobile?
Toonie

Hi,

I'm currently on an O2 SIM only tariff for £20/m which gives me 600mins, more TXTs than I'll ever use, and unlimited internet (I believe no longer available for new customers), which I use quite a lot given I have an Android handset. I also get £5/m off my O2 broadband because I'm an O2 mobile customer.

However, on a recent trip to the lake district I found that coverage was bad, and when ever I did a network scan, Orange nearly always showed up. I used to be a T-Mobile customer, but found with them, the coverage wasn't that great especially 3G. Now that Orange and T-Mobile are starting to share there networks, I am looking again at T-Mobile's SIM only packages (Orange's packages don't look appealing), in particular the £15/m 12 month contract, which has 600mins, flexible booster (which I would choose internet obviously), and again loads of TXTs. The £5 saving makes up for the fact that I'd be loosing the discount on my broadband.

Can anyone advice me if I should switch?

Regards,
Toonie.

Bear in mind that T-Mobile's SIM only plans will cap your data speed to ~384kb/s download, even though your phone might be on HSDPA and show an H in the corner. Compare this to other networks (and other T-Mobile contracts), where you could easily get 1000kb/s+.

A real shame, as their 3G coverage is easily the best (in terms of population % covered) along with 3, who share the same radio network.

I have just cancelled a SIM only contract due to this - several calls to customer services resulted in all sorts of lies (including claiming that all networks do the same thing).

They wanted me to pay a lot more (I think £15 per month more) for an internet addon which did not have the speed capping.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments. Actually when I switched from T-Mobile TO O2 I did notice a good speed improvement, which I'd kindof forgotten about. So perhaps I do have a good reason to stay where I am for the time being.

Thanks,
Toonie.

I am getting the iPhone 4 for Christmas PAYG and plan on getting it with T-Mobile as you get 500mb internet a month inclusive for 12 months. I will be getting the full speed with that right? I mean it wont be limited like you said SIM-only plans are?
