Menu is on their website, quite wide ranging - something for everyone. Open early for breakfast too.

£1.50 for a (lavazza) coffee and bacon roll in the morning - best value around

Of course they do - well that and deep fry stuff - but what's wrong with that?

If you want something cooked from scratch go to your nearest Michelin starred restaurant.

They have a grill section, so there is some "cooking" going on.

Good prices on lager and doubles. Just off out now and am already looking forward to my double buffalo trace bourbon and coke

Thats a dumb post. Plenty of pubs are able to cook up decent food from scratch, especially now as many pubs rely on food sales to survive.

Is the only attraction of a Wetherspoons pub the price?

I've only ever been in one once, and can't say I'd want to repeat the experience. From those that I go past these days, they all seem like huge cavernous places with the same decor in each and look very lacking in atmosphere. I'd rather go to a smaller pub with food that is cooked from scratch.

Sorry, don't mean to sound like a snob, but I really can't see the attraction.

No, that's just one of the main attractions.

I like Wetherspoon's pubs, because they consistently sell a great selection of well-kept real ales, they are clean and well run.

They have really set the standard for other pubs.
.... food that is cooked from scratch.
I keep reading this criticism, but for the prices they charge for food, what do you expect? Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen?

If you want a meal and a drink for not much more than over a fiver, go to Wetherspoon's. If you want to pay a lot more, go elsewhere.

I do

I'd personally prefer to pay a bit more for something that was cooked with love.

You dont have to pay a lot more for some pub food cooked from scratch. My local pub does curry and a pint night thursday for a fiver, and thats cooked from scratch because i know the chef!

None of this microwave ready meal pub shite.

Weatherspoons food is really bad, granted it's cheap but for an extra pound or two you can get some really good pub grub at locals.

Service can be poor as well, long waits for food on random days. A lot of the time they might not have some items on the menu in stock but they don't tell you when you order, they tell you 20 minutes after ordering meaning you have to wait another 20 minutes for them to cook and serve your food. Not a place to go for your hour lunch break.

I also think their pub's are full of deadbeat's attracted to the cheap drinks.

Is it only Michelin starred restaurants that cook their food from scratch then? Well I never.

Yes. There is a cafe near me that will do you pie and chips for £3.

No, I agree with you. They always seem full of the sort of people I usually have in my cells overnight.

Wetherspoons are different in different places. There are two near me, one I like and the other I don't. The one I like has nice llittle cubby places to sit so you have lots of privacy. Their veggie breakfast is huge and very cheap and the service is fine. The lunches are fine too if all you want is a pub meal. If you want a nice evening meal out then it's not the place to go. Drinks prices are reasonable too.

It's cheap and cheerful. I don't give a flying wotsit if they just heat up their food, if it's tasty I'll eat it. I know some people say it's tasteless, but they obviously have problems with their taste buds, and if I can taste the food and they can't, their taste buds must be REALLY bad, considering how much I smoke.

The best thing about my nearest Wetherspoons is simple... their Wifi is the equivalent of a 5meg connection, so I take the laptop there to do certain downloads I wouldn't want to do at home. A couple of pints and a cheap meal later, I've got a couple of films to watch.

I know they sometimes get described as "McDonalds with beer", but their menu is okay for standard pub grub type fare. The Gourmet burger is pretty good actually(it has a blue cheese type sauce on it). Plus they do decent breakfasts and the curry night isn't bad.

It depends a lot on which Wetherspoons you go to. I lived in Darlington before and the local Wetherspoons is quite good, food is decent compared to the prices and it's a nice place to go out for a drink. Yet the one in Nottingham city center is simply crap for example, slow service, often misses menu items etc.

Their coffee is quite tasty and remarkably good value. For example, a small caffe latte costs £1.09 (and just 99p in some bars). Furthermore, you can get a loyalty card stamped, and after 5 cups you can get the 6th cup free.

I assume you mean the Joseph Else. This in one of the worst pubs I've been in, full of riff raff and the service is , as you say, appalling. The Wetherspoons in Mapperley, the Woodthorpe Top, is completely different though. It is sometimes difficult to get served, but other than that a very smart place , and good cheap meals as well as a choice of beers.

I couldn't care less whether they prepare the food themselves, it tastes fine , and the few restaurants I've been in which are " supposed" to be top class have always been a big let down foe me , with tiny portions and having to wait ages simply to order.
