vodafone sim card in any handset?

vodafone sim card in any handset?
Does anybody know if I can use a vodafone pay as you go sim card in a sony ericsson handset?

I thought the sim card could be used in any handset, but I'm getting a message saying "insert correct sim card".

Can anybody advise me?

Your phone has a "Simlock" on it preventing Sim cards from other networks being inserted, this can be easily removed from £5-£15 in your local high st phone shop
