Was anyone else underwhelmed by ALL the dances this week?

I really wasn't blown away by anyone this week. I liked Matt & Aliona's routine but he messed it up. I thought Kara danced perfectly but her routine didn't engage me. I liked Scott's interpretation of the tango but felt let down by both the music and the choreography. I liked part of Pamela's dancing but at times thought she looked like she was teetering and about to fall on her arse. The rest ranged from blah to bad.

I don't know, I just felt underwhelmed by them all tonight. Anyone else?

I thought Scott and Natalie were fantastic although I do agree that they could have been given better music.

I was underwhelmed. I don't think there are any dances tonight I'd want to see again.

Loved it for the most part, whizzed through Felicity, Peter and Gavin on Sky+ though, they just don't do anything for me. Widdy was an absolute scream. Tina put in a really good effort but I think she is flying under the radar, which potentially could put her at risk.

Scott & Natalie were excellent.

I think quite a lot of people were. Perhaps, when the show has more variety of dances, there will be more to suit everyone.

Totally underwhelmed, only Jimi and Flavia's got me feeling happy and in the mood for strictly. Last week I loved loads of them, Scotts QS, Pamela's rumba, Kara's QS...but this week they all fell flat for me. I can't stand that I'm feeling so negative about this series, but the combination of the judges ridiculous marking and harsh comments for various couples, along with underwhelming routines is making me so pessimistic every Saturday now I used to love this show, now I really only watch for the pro dances, Flavia and Jimi, and in the vain hope that it will get better!

I think it's just that the tangos left me cold and I detest the Charleston. I couldn't even enjoy Kara's (my current fav) despite her dancing it very well because I just loathe the whole feel of that dance. I have been really excited this year every week, the most excitement I've felt since Alesha & Matthew were in it but tonight was a combination of not amazing tangos and the worst dance in the history of the world. And I include the Birdie Dance in that.

Not my favourite week, although I did enjoy all the Charlestons...bar one ...Peters I am not a big tango fan but I did think Scott and Pamela did a good dance. The last tango of the show is best forgotten:yawn:

I enjoyed the Charleston's more then I was expecting too and Scott and Natalie's tango was superb.

Being honest I was a bit underwhelmed, but I think this week's show will look much better when watching for a second time (as I do ).

The only routine that grabbed my attention all the way through was Matt and Aliona's Charleston - but he did slip.

My expectations of the Charleston on SCD were based on watching Chris and Ola last year and I think all the couples dancing the Charleston knew this would be the case for lots of viewers.

The way each couple attempted to overcome this problem was to try to include everything except the kitchen sink in their performances. The result was each routine was far to busy for me and didn't have any of the smooth flow that the Charleston should have.

I know people expect it to be jerky and quirky, but the whole thing should have an ease to it, as if all the movements are effortless - and that takes a lot of skill.

Apart from Ann, none of the Tango routines were awful, but none had the WOW! factor either. Even Gavin was about average for the show as a whole.

It's week 5 so my guess is that we are the stage in the series where it all becomes such hard work for the celebs. They are tired and have learned so much, but none of it is easy yet. Next week is the half way point and it will probably be clear who is going to continue getting better and who has peaked - Jimmi and Gavin come to mind for me.

It's only week 4 by my maths.

To see 4 celebs at the standard Matt, Scott, Tara and Pam have achieved at this stage overwhelms me

I liked Kara's routine best. Didn't think any were 8 or 9 worthy.

No, I enjoyed most of the routines. However, as Len often says, all this faffing around is so frustrating. My personal favourites were Tina, Scott, Kara, Patsy and last but not least Pamela.

I normally love the Tangos, but clearly I haven't a clue what makes a good one, as I didn't like Scott's very much.
Lovley music, but to me they didn't seem to using the music to punctuate the dance.
(That's why I loved Vincent and Rachel's Tango- you could watch it on mute, and still "hear" the music)
And her dress (while stunning) seemed much more an American Smooth style.

Pamela seemed to be trying to catch up with James.
And her dress!!!!
(someone described it looking like a Cadbury's chocolate!)

Felicity and Vincent seemed to be trying to showhorn a few AT moves into it, so much so that one of the judges trotted out the old "lady of the night" chestnut.
But doesn't Vincent look sweet with red lippy on??

Lovely to see Ian back, and he managed to reduce Michelle's wobbliness a bit.
But even his presence could not make up for that monstrosity of a dress!

Gavin was.... Gavin.

And Ann.....appeared.

The only dances that I loved were Matt's and Ann's. For totally different reasons.

I was surprised how bad the charlestons were. I thought after last year that it was an easy dance that everyone would do well, but this week just showed how great the three couples that did the charleston were at that dance.

~Totally underwhelming. Not too sure about Nat & Scott's tango, although the dress was horrific, because the swirly camera man made me dizzy.

The charleston is a great fun dance to do and doesn't have to be all tricks and gurning to be entertaining - I give you the sublime Ginger Rogers to prove a point.

I didn't enjoy ANY of the Charlestons. I loved it last year but I don't think it should appear until nearer Christmas. Otherwise we may just as well have hip-hop and showdances as standard.

Actually I do feel as if most of the dances are free-style now. All those QS last week were tango-esque. I'm confused by the stylistic licence.

Last night I enjoyed and admired Scatalie and enjoyed Jamela. I thought that was proper dancing/choreography but the rest was highly *meh*.

I take that back. Rewatched Scott's tango and it's excellent. I think it's the camera work that put me off the first time.
I also liked Kara's charleston the best. The rest I couldn't care less.

Scott and Natalies Tango was my favorite. I am generally impressed with how well Scott is doing.

I think bearing in mind Scott has never danced at all before, he is doing a great job.

I know Natalie isnt very popular on here, but I just think she must be a very good teacher to be able to get him to that standard already.
I think I wasn't overly impressed with her last year because I thought Ricky Whittle was naturally talented, if you get what I mean, and they both knew this and relyed on it and it all felt rather arrogant and pushed from the start.

I don't get that feeling with Scott, that he is as naturally talented dancer as Ricky or Matt and even Kara. I think it's due to hard work and being taught well, which I admire.

I also like Matt, Pamela and Jimmy, who i think is being marked unfairly, and I really liked Tina this week and think she can do alot more.

I'm underwhelmed by the entire series this year. The zlebs just don't seem to have any spark about them, none of them seem to have any charisma, the judges are giving ridiculously high marks for week 4 and the props and messing about are just annoying. It's gone from being a 'must see' show to a 'don't care if I don't' one.
