Why do they pretend SCD is 'live' on a Sunday?

In these days of the BBC being honest with their listeners and viewers, why are they allowed to keep on pretending that Sunday night's 'eviction' in Strictly Come Dancing is live, when it was actually recorded last night?

Baffles me too.

It is weird, isn't it? What's the point?

Do they actually think they're fooling anyone apart from the kids?

Because the results are shown on Sunday they cannot refer to tonights earlier dances as they were shown on the Saturday. Seems pretty obvious to me and as they have never said that the Sunday night show is live why are they pretending about anything.

They don't pretend it's live, on Saturday they start with 'Live from London' on Sunday they don't.

As with most shows like this that are prerecorded they say things like last night's dances so as not to confuse the viewers who may end up thinking they've missed an episode if they said earlier this evening.

It is weird, but it happens/they pretend because a lot of people (like my parents) either don't notice the obvious or are just too busy to realise that the results show is recorded immediately after the main/live show.

And they have to pretend because broadcasting the results show on a Sunday with a "this was actually recorded last night and you can find out the result now if you're resourceful enough" voiceover at the beginning would be a bit silly.

There's no significant deception involved because the phone/voting lines are closed before that part of the results show is recorded.

I guess the real question is why they don't show the results show on a Saturday anymore (they used to, if I recall correctly), but the powers-that-be must have decided that it was too much work for something that would be broadcast in not prime-time/for the largest audience and opted for an early evening Sunday show + pretence instead.

(and I don't think anyone has ever claimed that the Sunday show is live; the pretence is all to do with referring to things that happened on a Saturday as if they happened on a Sunday)

And the real, real, question, in these times of cost cutting, is why do they all have to have new outfits/hair do's (excluding the contestants of course, who don't) ?

My mother-in-law is convinced it's live because of Tess saying "last night's dance...... etc etc..." and both Tess and Alisha have different dresses/hairstyles too that is probably paid by us licence payers, and this probably gives the impression that Sunday's show is live! On programmes like Steve Wright's or Simon Mayo's, if something like an interview was recorded earlier, they tell the listeners, so why don't they alert the viewers to SCD being pre-recorded?

They don't alert the viewers to it (the results show) being pre-recorded because they don't want more people to know that the "who is going this week?" question was answered last night.

For reasons known only to them, they've decided not to have a live results show on the same evening as the main show. Consequently, they need to try and keep the whole "we knew who was going last night" thing as secret as possible in order to try and maximise viewing figures for the results show.

What surprises me if the way the rest of the media seem to go along with the BBC. If the X Factor results show was produced in the same way, keeping the result secret would be impossible.

Perhaps nobody cares enough at this stage to widely publicise the result before Sunday's SCD show, but I wouldn't be surprised if the results show does actually become live a couple of weeks before the final.

Too be fair they don't use the term "Live" when talking about the result show if it be on the Saturday night show or at the start of the Sunday night show.So they aren't breaking any rules.Plus another giveaway that the show isn't live is because the phone lines close on the same night as the main show.If the show was live on a Sunday then the phone lines would still be opened until a certain point on the Sunday.

Stop answering the questions of the vunerable children!

What are you going to do next? Let them know Santa's not real?

You should be ashamed of yourself!

Must be a reason, why they dropped the mention of London?

If tonights show had been live, everyone would have been waring a poppy!

The BBC started at 6AM this morning with all on screen staff asked to wear a poppy while on screen.

Surprised they didn't hand them out FREE to everyone on Saturday for the recording of the Sunday show.

Peter Shilton referred to him dancing 'tonight' rather then 'last night' on the results show.

Seems silly really. Everyone knows it's recorded so why go to the bother of changing outfits and scripting it as if the dances took place the previous day?

I noticed Tess always says "this weekend" now when referring to a couple being eliminated so there's no deceit there.
I'm sure if it was broadcast live the same night, Alesha and Tess would still change costumes much as they do on CIN night.

I asked on another thread - where do they hide Claudia during the main show or does she just mingle with the audience?
I can't see her keeping away if there's a SCD show going live

I don't think everyone does know though, and keeping the number of people that do know as low as possible is in the BBC's interest because they want people to actually watch the results show instead of look at the spoiler threads here and elsewhere.

This might have been done before, but it would be interesting to see what ratings an extended results show (with no pretence) would get following a brief (and live) 10-15 minute results show on Saturday.

And where exactly does Bruce go? Do they put him on some kind of 'charger' in time for next week's show?

If the Sunday show is only half an hour tacked on to the end of the Saturday show then why can't Bruce do both?

As a matter of fact I'd rather he didn;t but it does seem a waste of Claudia as she's just dragged on for 30 mins on Saturday/Sunday nights at the end of the recording.

And to be fair she always looks like she's just been dragged on!

All shows that are prerecorded try to give the impression that they are recorded the night they are being transmitted

Johnathon Ross was always recorded on a Thursday but went always tried to give the impression that it was a show broadcast on a Friday without actually saying that

Well, do you really think the Queen stands and delivers her Christmas address on Christmas Day? So little TV is live nowadays.

If it weren't for Bruce being so utterly naff in earlier series, a reasonable formula would have been worked out by now to allow the audience to understand that the show is recorded over many hours, needs to be edited and can no longer be allowed to hog the whole of Saturday evening, so you get two halves.
