Why do they pretend SCD is 'live' on a Sunday?

Watched the show with my parents tonight who are mad keen, and the same questions came up. Why, I innocently wondered, do it on separate nights, seems a bit of a bother for the contestants to get dressed up again. I think it's recorded my parents said. So where does Bruce Forsyth go I asked, can he only stand up for limited periods of time? And why the costume change, and how do they keep the result secret overnight? etc.

[quote]My mother-in-law is convinced it's live because of Tess saying "last night's dance...... etc etc..."QUOTE]
Ask her if she thinks they would get'em all dolled-up again just for 30mins on a Sunday.

They don't.”

They do°°!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, Tess keeps going on and on about how the contestants danced LAST night and we all know the Results Show is recorded on Saturday night. What happens with the voting system? Can people only vote on Saturday or do they still keep calling in until the Result Show is broadcast on Sunday night!! Do not understand the system as so many things have changed on Strictly. Talk about the Americanisation of Strictly!!!! Surely if the show is recorded on Saturday the viewers have very little time to actually vote for their favourite celeb!!!!!!

BIB - No Tess states quiet clearly at the end the Saturday live show, that voting lines are only open until 8.15 that night. The spoiler result is usually available by about 10.20. So I assume that filming for the Sunday show starts soon after the phone lines are closed.

If it weren't for Bruce being so utterly naff in earlier series, a reasonable formula would have been worked out by now to allow the audience to understand that the show is recorded over many hours, needs to be edited and can no longer be allowed to hog the whole of Saturday evening, so you get two halves.”

Just to make clear that the show on Sat from 6-7.45 is live and all the couples perform live in that time. I'm sure after 7.45 when the all couples have danced they have more time for editing in the results show.

The inserts for the results show are pre-recorded, obviously. Otherwise the pro dancers would have to change their outfits as fast as Clark Kent/Superman! I am sure the guest singer's performance is pre-recorded too as the instruments disappear very quickly!

That might be true but they don't use the term "Live".So they are not pretending that the show is live.

He goes back in the deep freeze ready to be warmed up again next friday, he can only be out for so long

It is a bit pointless to "pretend" its the "following day"...especially when voting lines are only open for about 30 mins after the Saturday show ends.

Didn't this start because people with kids moaned how late they had to stay up to see the results on a Saturday

They make the show for the viewers at home.

The viewers saw the dance last night so it's perfectly right for Tess to refer to it as last night. It's irrelevant when it was recorded.

When they refer to something that happened on The Apprentice last week, do you moan that it was actually recorded a year ago?

As far as I am aware, no one claims that The Apprentice was recorded on the week it is shown and it has never been shown live.

Not really a good comparison!

Sod the kids! They should just do a repeat of the results on Sunday so the kids can watch them then. The results shown on Saturday night, no need for any pretence then.

Everyone would be happy then. Although I'm sure some idiots would have an issue with this too. Can't see what it would be though

They don't claim that the results show is live. They just refer to events that happen in the same way that the viewers saw them.

That seems perfectly acceptable to me.

I am not arguing that. What I tried to point out was that your comparison was irrelevant as The Apprentice don't claim and never have claimed that their episodes are live.

Exactly.

Dancing Girl you really need to listen to what Tess says, especially about the voting which ends within an hour of the main show on the Saturday night.

As the results show is broadcast on the Sunday night, Tess and the others refer to the Saturday show as 'last night', because by the time they are talking it was last night (occasionally someone slips up like Peter did this week). Nobody pretends the results show is live in the same way the Saturday show is. Lots of shows are pre-recorded before a live audience, but that doesn't mean the shows are live and nobody pretends that they are.

Surely the point is that the BBC could announce the results shortly after the voting has closed. It doesn't take that long to electronically count and verify them and while that takes place they could fill in with some of the stuff they use on a Sunday (God forbid). Instead they choose (unwisely) to drag the whole thing out over two nights and how tedious that is.

I prefer the results show on a Sunday.

I see no reason why the results show can't be broadcast on Saturday night and repeated on Sunday for those who prefer it on a Sunday.

i think it should be illegal for the bbc to make out that its a Sunday when clearly they are still in Saturday time, and the dancers have exactly the same hairstyle etc. they must think viewers are thick and i find that completely unacceptable and disrespectful to us

Last year they extended the main show to include the results & lots of people moaned then that the show was too long & tedious so I don't think they can win.

I posted this in another thread but would like to hear any opinions.

What I thought didn't sit right was when they asked Michelle and Peter why they want to stay in the competition and they were dressed in their normal clothes. Peter said I'm in the bottom two again . Now they surely didn't change into their normal clothes and back again to their dancing clothes on the Sat.

I wonder do they ask all the celebs the same question much earlier in the week, in case they are in the bottom two?

Jonathan Ross has often said his show was already recorded earlier in the week, especially if something was going to be taking place between recording day and Friday night that he wouldn't have known the outcome of!

It is well publicised that the Queen's Christmas Day message is recorded some time before the day it's shown... but nowhere have I seen that the SCD results show has already been recorded on the previous night, other than on here!

But by Tess talking about 'last night's dances' etc on the Sunday show, she is thereby inferring that Saturday's programme was shown as it happened, on Saturday and making it appear the Sunday night show is on a different day... ie, happening on Sunday!

It's one of my favourite shows and I get to watch every day! I also like to see the pro dances and don't mind most of the special guests, because pro dancers usually accompany them. I already know the result because I read the spoiler thread on a Saturday night, but that doesn't prevent me enjoying the results show.

It has been tried this way and viewers complained the show was too long, on too late or spoiled the rest of Saturday evening. Of course X Factor was a problem too for many viewers.

For 12 weeks at this time of year, at some point on a Saturday and Sunday evening Strictly is on and I'm happy enough with this.

Have a look at on the BBC SCD Blog and on Wikipedia and it stated quite clearly both shows are recorded on the Saturday night.

By the time viewers hear Tess saying last night's show, it is the next night!
