He said that Mary can't come out and do the same thing week in week out and needs to do something different.

Why has he not told Cher the same thing

Too much arse licking on X Factor this year me thinks.

Simon doesn't want Mary to win. His comment has basically resulted in Mary either being labelled a one trick pony or it will force her to stop playing to her strengths. Job done.

Because unlike Mary I can actually tell the differences between chers songs. Marts album would be like one song lasting for over an hour.

At a guess, because he's bored of Mary and she's not showing any hint being able to fit into the modern music market. He's not bored of Cher and she sings songs that could easily fit into the charts just now.

Cher is terrible but this is entirely true. I mean come on, it's week THREE and Mary is already recycling songs.

Huh?
Simon just said he thinks Mary's got a great recording voice.

To be fair she has sung the same song twice now. If Cher had sung one of her audition songs this forum would have been up in arms.

Mary is in trouble soon if there is no change - they want a reason to send her out in a sing-off - I think people are reading the forums more than what we realise...

But what's she going to sing?

All she has done is sing old songs. Is that what she's going to do when she wins? She may have a great recording voice but it needs to be applied to something "relevant" (in Cowell-speak). Most other contestants are singing more modern songs than in the past.

Michelle McManus had a great recording voice. Unfortunately, neither Michelle nor Mary was any good if you could actually see them. An Essex facelift is not a good look for someone with several chins, it makes Mary look like a right old battleaxe. She'd do very well in the cruiseship market, but nowhere else.

To be honest I am not sure how you can tell the difference and would it not be more accurate to say if Cher had spoken one of her audition songs this forum would have been up in arms

Because as sad as it is, Cher would fit in with what's "in" at the moment in the charts, the whole NDubz, Tinie Tempah sort of of aesthetics...... and i actually agree with simon about mary, she's just a failed singer who would have done well off the back of this competition if it was 1965 but the only people who would buy her records are the sort of people that don't buy/download music and when the next old lady that we can patronize comes along she'll be forgotten about.

We know Mary has her style of singing as does Cher but we also know which of the two has the better voice.

We could say the majority of acts are one trick ponies so far. Matt is the only one that has shown us any real versatility.

Simon is right with Mary.

If Bassey can sing Pink Mary can surely sing something a little more modern.

It's not primarily a case of Mary even being a one-trick pony - it's that she's as bloody bland as wallpaper paste. She just shouts. No rcontrol or subtly to what she sings. She has no originality to her. A two a penny Cruise ship singer.

Louis addressed all of this on the Xtra Factor : he says he has loads of tricks up his sleeve for Mary and that he has been taking all criticism about her song choices on board.

In that case, I look forward to seeing Mary sing Gaga's "Bad Romance" next week with her gusset on display.

If it was 1965 she'd be 5 years old. This is kinda my problem with Mary -she's not that old and not singing songs from her youth, more the sort of thing her parents probably liked. I'm older than her and, whilst i quite like Dusty, Bassey etc, I'm far more familiar with more modern stuff and can think of several songs she could attempt whilst remaining in her genre.

Well he'd better get some of those tricks out of his sleeve and into Marys performances. She's his only real hope now

And yet he will give a standing ovation to Michael Buble who sounds the same no matter what he sings, and his music can hardly be called contemporary! yet he sells thousands of records and has made a nice few bob out of Frank Sinatra numbers!

Mary knows what she is good at, as most good singers do, and she is right not to sacrifice her dignity and make a fool of herself to line the already very rich pockets of Simon Cowell and his co-horts by performing like a puppet in the name of "entertainment"!

Someone said Mary needs to be restyled and interestingly he agreed with this as well.

Each of us on here discussing the merits of the individual acts will have a unique opinion and see attributes in the acts that we either like or dislike according to our tastes and views on life in general.

Louis made this very point last week, saying that Buble and Susan Boyle are crossover artists selling millions of albums featuring songs from the past. You don't see people attacking them for being "old fashioned" and "dated"

Am I the only one out there who thinks Mary is like a cut-price SuBo? She comes accross as a nice lady, but I dont find her relevant, interesting or unique.
