archos tablets

Been looking at a couple of archos tablets. The Archoc 9pc tablet running windows 7 and the upcoming archos 101 running android 2.2

Has anyone had experience of either? I know the 101 isnt out yet but previous archos android tablets have been around a little while now.

I love my android phones so initially was looking at that but archos have blocked off the android market for some reason.

I mainly use general internet browsing so for that id imagine either will do but the reason i started looking at the windows version was mainly for the programs on my laptop, like yahoo messenger, (i know there are android apps for that but i like the actual messenger on windows that allows photo sharing direct), and just the general usage of windows.

Anyone used either?

P.S. i dont want an ipad so please no talk about.

Archos don't block the android market, google have minimum hardware requirements that must be met in order to have the marketplace enabled on a device. The main one being phone capabilities which many of these tablets don't have. That's why the Archos tablets don't have google marketplace and something like the Dell Streak does.

Android isn't really designed for tablets currently though the next version should change that.

I wouldn't bother with the windows tablet they built unless you get it for a bargain price. It had pretty poor reviews and was underpowered and lacking in battery life.

The 101 looks interesting though.

AFAIK the 9 has a resistive screen. The 70 and 101 if they ever appear will have capacitive screens which most people say are much better.

Yea ive been looking at all the specs and videos on youtube etc....

The 101 has capacitive screen which is a bit better. Im more interested in if anyone has actually used them? I just cant decide if id rather have windows or android on a tablet.

Windows because at least ill know it will do pretty much everything my laptop will do.

Android because it should maybe run a little smoother and will be cheaper.

Decisions decisions

Go here, there's quite a community there regarding the Gen 8 Archos Tablets, and also a few videos from people that already have the 101 (was released in Germany I think)

I myself and trying to decide between a £299 101 or a £429 iPad...

Edit - They have already got the market working on the Archos Gen 8 Tablets

Edit 2 - http://www.archos.com/store/psearch....id=archos101it The 16GB is now available to buy, but initial shipment seems sold out
