Not great for Poirot, although I didn't think the 8pm start was that clever. Surely its more 9pm Sunday evening material?

Apprentive wasn't too high either, maybe the series is starting to decline.

The Apprentice doesn't seem to be taking off this year, perhaps its because its battling for headlines with X Factor.

I think Poirot dented its ratings

I reckon it'll do better next week against the Chelsea match (casual viewers only see to be interested in Man Utd games)

Bare in mind that The Apprentice and Waterloo Road were shown on BBC2 in Scotland last night. At 21:30 BBC1 Scotland showed Helicopter Heroes which would have really dragged the network rating down. Football (St Johnstone v Celtic) was on at 19:30-21:30.

Also STV did not show the new 2 hr Poirot.

In 1994, when CBBC was on BBC2 because of Wimbledon, some CBBC shows got into the BBC2 Top Ten, the likes of Blue Peter and Byker Grove, which had about 2.3 million viewers (albeit this was at 5.30, rather than the usual 5pm slot). I'm not sure about the audience it would have got on BBC1, about the same or maybe more as the competition from BBC2 would have been weaker. BBC2 didn't really try hard at teatime until late 1994, when Ready Steady Cook started, so the only competition was other kids shows on ITV and Countdown, which was almost always Channel Four's biggest show. In the eighties they would get about six million viewers.

That said, despite its low ratings, those who watch Blue Peter are very loyal. One of their recent competitions got 10,000 entries which, given only about 200,000 watch it some days, is a masive response, most shows would kill for 5% of their audience to write in. The appeal's another one, they've already had over 150,000 donations.

Yes, and the thing about moving Corrie around like this is that it may make sense from a scheduling perspective, but it makes no sense for the viewers. Moving it to Thursday was sold as being because of the football, but ITV can't move it Tuesday and say "We're moving it because Tuesdays aren't rating". That'll just confuse and annoy everyone.

The reason Corrie is declining is entirely down to these scheduling shuffles, and adding an 8pm showing to 7.30 and 8.30 showings just makes it more confusing. It's already stupid enough that after saying it wouldn't be on Wednesdays and Sundays anymore, they shove it on odd Wednesdays and Sundays. If the normal slot is unavailable, they'd be better off just not showing it than rescheduling it for yet another slot. It does nothing for viewer loyalty. Never mind how many are commissioned, it'll all even out in the long run.

I've said this before but Emmerdale should be at 7pm Monday to Friday, with an hour-long episode on Wednesday when there's room. That would mean everyone knows exactly when Emmerdale's on, and it would lose the pointless sixth episode which is only there because they can make six a week, it's of no benefit to the quality of the programme.

Also, if Corrie was ever to move from Monday at 7.30 that would be hideous because it's been there since 1961, which must be the most established slot in the history of television.

The only move Coronation Street should be making is back to 7.30pm on a Wednesday with episodes being displaced to Sunday at 7.30pm when the football is on. The current set up, whilst not ideal, works well for ITV and the Monday/Friday 8.30pm episodes are now fairly established. The problem just lies with the Thursday episode. Moving from 7.30pm on a Monday would be catastrophic.

imo (as an on & off fan) the current Corrie scheduling is stupid

2 episode Monday, then nothing till Thursday?

bring back the Wednesday, drop Emmers when football is on (so moving Corrie half an hour earlier)

any displaced Emmers eps should then be shown on Sunday, X-Factor & DoI be damned

Good night for BBC1. I wonder what they think of The Apprentice's ratings though? Down on last series, but still over 6m... it doesn't seem to have the same steam as last series had. Probably doesn't help about the constant 'clashes' against two-hour dramas on ITV, but I would have thought it would have been higher versus Poirot, as the audience demo's I would imagine are quite different. I can see it dropping to below 6m though versus I'm a Celebrity in a few weeks.

Very good rating for Masterchef again on BBC2, I wonder how much money I'd put on it moving to BBC1 next year for the Professionals. ITV had a good night, pity Emmerdale wasn't nearer to 8m, but still very good rating - while Poirot did decently.

Channel 4 needed to get the miners documentary on air sooner if it was going to bring good numbers, so not too much of a surprise there. Million Pound Drop increased again though which I'm sure will please them.

Apart from Cowboy Builders, a poor night for Five.

Great for MPD increasing YET again. I think that so far, this is the only thing that can work for a BB replacement as it is getting only 200k less than BB11s overnight average.
Last night, C4 was privileged having the 2 shows that are doing best at the moment one after another. They will be gutted when Grand Designs ends, even though it has dropped under 3m.

A drop for The Apprentice, but still doing well and Emmers seems to be in a strong position recently.

Hollyoaks later? Last nights episode was fantastic.

Emmerdale is rating brilliantly at the moment and its well deserved too, its possibly in the best form out of the "big 3"

Neighbours seems to get a midweek spike at the moment. Last Wednesday's episode got 1.5 which moved up to 1.58m, and this Wednesday's episode got 1.4m which I assume will do the same.

Momentum seems to build during the week, and then disappear come the start of the week. I wonder if the clocks changing at the weekend will have any effect on the 5.30pm ratings. Last year some episodes reached as high as 1.95m.

Just noticed this airing after Piers Morgan's Life Stories on Saturday 6th November:

Quote:
“Bon Jovi (Music)
ITV1 Central
Saturday, November 6th, 2010
10:30pm to 11:30pm

One Night Only.”

Anyone know what this actually is? I know ITV had a 'For One Night Only' strand a year or two back... is this a left-over of that or something different? Seems quite... random.
D.M.N.
28-10-2010
Provisional schedules for week beginning 13th November for BBC already up. Sunday and Monday at 9pm is blank, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday have Turn Back in Time, Apprentice and the comedys as expected, and don't forget Friday 19th is Children in Need all night. ITV's will probably all be TBA's, even though we know what will be there.

No sign of a rescheduled EastEnders in the provisionals, so it looks like only 3 episodes maybe that week.

From Radio Times:

Quote:
“The band, who appeared on The X Factor last weekend, perform some of their greatest hits to a select audience, and frontman Jon Bon Jovi provides an insight into his personal life. Formed in New Jersey in 1983, the group have sold more than 130 million albums and are one of rock's most popular touring acts.”

Looks new and it seems like part of the One Night Only specials strand that has so far featured Rod Stewart and Phil Collins. God knows why they've buried it there though, it would have been good for 4-5m in a peaktime slot although I guess SuBo's Life Stories will get 5m+ so it'll at least have a good lead in so may get 3-4m which would be good for that slot.

Solid, if unspectular for Emmerdale which surely deserved more than 7.6m. Why ITV didn't advertise it i'll never know.

As for the whole Corrie schedule change. Some of the suggestions I've read are just ridiculous! The Wednesday to Thursday move didn't go very smoothly, but it's gained some ground recently...but overall this is unacceptable considering how long it's been in that slot now (since July 23rd 2009). Moving Corrie around again would only harm the show more.

Personally I'd just leave it all as it is, even though it's not exactly ideal at the moment. Who knows, in a few years time the Wednesday slot may come available again and if it does ITV should just move it back if this happens. As for Corrie acting as a weapon to boost other days, it's hardly advisable as a Corrie lead-in these days doesn't always work anyway. Anyone remember The Bill?!

I think ridiculous is a bit strong. What else can ITV do to improve Tuesdays without an extra Corrie or Emmerdale? You say leave it how it is but its not working now. Corrie doesnt deserve to be bigger than the entire channel.

It's the Rod Stewart one which has already been shown several times on ITV1 and ITV2, probably because Rod is the subject of Life Stories on Saturday and tells us about his IVF experiences. He gets his wife and her friends up on stage and there is a sycophantic presentation by Ben Shephard. Not to be missed (but only if you are a Rod fan)

Poirot had a knock on effect on NCIS but I imagine if it wasn't for Downton Abbey, it would have been shown on Sunday and gain a much bigger audience.

The Apprentice did well but it's not really talked about much compared to previous years. I imagine it'll be back in March/April for 2011. Have they have started filming for the seventh series yet.

Masterchef the Proffesionals did great, I imagine the final will hit 5m+.

Just over 6m is still good for The Apprentice, but a little underwhelming really and it doesn't seem to be building its audience and doesn't seem as resiliant to ITV competition as it was last time. But it's all swings and roundabouts really because SCD is up and getting more media attention this year and The Apprentice is losing out in that respect.

Emmerdale would definitely have been capable of 8m with promotion and it's really bizarre why ITV didn't promote it. It was a strong episode, if a little rushed considering it was the climax to a huge storyline. Still remains the strongest soap for me-consistent all year with something going on in every single episode. I think that's why ratings remain consistent throughout the week aswell.

It seemed to provide a good lead in for Poirot, pulling in a similar audience it would have done on a Sunday. Poirot/Marple are always around 5m so the Sunday to Wednesday transition has been done quite well.

Bad night for CH5 apart from Cowboy Builders which performed as reliably as ever.

Gosh do you think? I reckon 4 would be good, 4.5 excellent, as it must average around 3.2m so far, 5m is a huge jump. The shows next week are 90 mins each too, so quite long.

The Series 2 finale did over 4m, it should comfortably do that at least. I think it peaked at 5m as well.

Masterchef the Proffesionals could move to BBC One but it sort of suits BBC Two and it would have to go through the format change that the parent show is going to have and I assume if that works it will filtered to the spin-offs with the exception of Junior Masterchef.

Oh gosh at that Strictly Speaking rating from Oz. Neighbours i feel could do with a better lead in. I do wonder what it would be like if they had MasterChef on at 6.30pm - 7.30pm and Neighbours at 7.30pm, that said, too late now.
