He and Konnie Huq have had successful post Blue Peter career, is Simon Thomas doing television, I know Liz is now a full time mum and Katy Hill does the odd bit of telly work.”

Simon Thomas co-presents on Sky Sports News.

I think TOS was gaining several hundred thousand viewers when Matt took over whilst Jason was doing his comedy show a week or two back (although I stand to be corrected).

Edit: The BBC has now confirmed he's left The One Show.”

I wondered why Chris Evans was presenting tonight - I don't catch many episodes I have to admit.

Last night: Emmerdale did well considering the lead out didn't exactly offer a crossover audience. The football dropped at half time and didn't really recover - I think England football is in the doldrums at the moment. BBC1 did well throughout the night except the 8pm hour which is not taking advantage of the lack of opposition.

I expect Coronation Street to see a boost tonight compared to usual Thursday nights as it started on the hour, rather than half past. I'm A Celebrity... may be hit slightly in comparison but I don't think severely. It'll be interesting to see how BBC1 does from 8pm onwards though any dip won't be serious considering the opposition.

Matt Baker has to get the gig now surely. Ticks every single box and certain not to cause any problems.

That's good, he was always the sporty one whenever he was on Blue Peter.

Ironically, Richard Bacon is probably one of the more successful BP presenters and he was sacked!

the only box he doesnt tick is the "risk taking" box, but that probaly isnt an issue at this stage.

and so the one show saga continues!

For such a "nicey nice" type of show, it does provide never ending pages in the papers.

Alex Jones has established herself well enough to be able to hold the programme together with different presenters so they can test out a few others whilst Matt Baker has commitments on Strictly Come Dancing.

I always said that Manford would not last on the programme.

the good thing about Matt being on Strictly Come Dancing is that his "star" will have risen, for him joining the One Show full time, to appear like news.

He has signed up to the 36 date Strictly Arena tour in Jan and Feb 2011.

But he will probably be able to get out of it

at the football!

6.3m for England v France!

I don't know what's more embarrassing - the p1ss poor performances on the pitch, in the studio or in the ratings!

Chiles must wonder where it all went wrong. Not only is his own career on the skids since he defected, but the fortunes of the national side have nosedived since the day he jumped ship.

I hear a new job opportunity may have come up this evening though, which may interest him...

Anyone know when an England international - the actual match itself, not pre/post - was last outrated by something on the other side?

I know I can't...

"exclusive" in the sense it attracted a far smaller audience than those who watched the simulcast on BBC1?

Perhaps ITV are planning to fill every available slot with Corrie programming that week?

Seems like it...

Thats pretty strong considering ITV have been running 2 hour dramas and events against it to good effect.”

Make your mind up!

Your second reason is correct - the tougher ITV competition it has faced this year compared to the sprine/summer 2009 slot.

It probably should have done better in a dark, cold winter slot - but the tougher competition has balanced that out.

I expect the final to rate very well in the post TXF Final/pre Christmas slot - possibly > than the 10m from last time. Do we assume Apprentice Night will be Wednesday 22nd December?

That could be a very interesting battle - X Factor Final vs Royal Variety Peformance...”

I like the idea - BBC1 offering an evening of talent and variety (SCD Results show and RVP) against the climax of a overhyped padded out karaoke contest.

But it would be a waste for BBC1 of show capable of up to 9m in a less competitive slot.

Now that will be one ITV "EXCLUSIVE" (sic) that won't be featuring on all the other channels at the same time!

Great episode tonight, but very sad because that will almost certainly be that.

To all the people who slagged this excellent series off and refused to watch it - your loss.

Or a One Show presenter's web activities?

http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content...3/15818045.jpg

It wouldn't surprise me if The One Show has actually generated more newspaper front page stories in 2010 than Cowell's singing contest.

Anyway, hopefully the core TXF viewership will assume it has finished, given the absence of front page coverage.

I suspect most of them have the memory of a goldfish, so this is possible...

Not to mention his work on that other smash hit ratings juggernaut of a show that crushes everything in its path - er, Countryfile...

Matt Baker is probably one of the biggest stars on British TV. Even if no-one knows his name...

if he makes the final, he will be judged big enough for the role, heck I dont think he even needs to do that.

That said the name "Matt Baker" makes it sounds like he should be a Doctor Who actor.

I can't see how Matt Baker could hold down The One Show (even for 4 days) and Countryfile, especially considering the amount of travel the latter demands from him.

Depends where the BBC decide he's of most use, I suppose, but personally I'd be inclined not to mess with a winning formula on Countryfile. There's plently of options. There's quite a pool of similar, amiable, competent ex-Blue Peter types who'd be more than fine for The One Show. Gethin Jones, perhaps. Though maybe thats too many Welsh accents on one show...!

The Countryfile schedule really isn't that hectic. When Julia Bradbury and Matt first took over it was mainly them doing 80% of the show together. But since the start of the year they barely appear together on screen and both do seperate reports now. [presuambly because of all Julias other shows like the 'walks' series and secret Britain]
They both only do around one report an episode now and then a small follow up. The rest of the show is filled with the other contributors.

Wow, that's really dissappointing considering the huge promotion it got. It's better than Skins and The Inbetweeners combined.

Clashed with an hour long Emmerdale which had a half-hour head start. I expect the BBC3 figure will be quite high.

ITV1 really blocked BBC1 off last night. It's been a long time since an EE V Emmerdale clash had such a large gap. Emmerdale around 7.5m inc HD is pretty much what we'd expect for a normal Thursday episode so wasn't really dented. I thought EE would hold up better tbh. Corrie got a slight boost from last Thursday, but nothing major-prob around 0.5m inc HD. IAC performed virtually the same as Tuesday (DS posted 8.7m inc HD) and it's holding up extremely well. It's annoying that ITV don't bundle their HD figures into the main channel figure, because HD is becoming more significant now, especially with the big events which ITV have more of (BGT, XF, IAC, Corrie).

Watchdog did well for BBC1, but apart from that everything seemed to fall apart.

Great start for Beeny's new show on CH4 considering the competition. I just wish they'd treat their popular shows well and schedule them well.

Extremely disappointing for Misfits. Maybe it's always destined to be a niche drama but it deserves bigger ratings. It's that good.
