Really is pathetic trying to criticise ITV's output and ratings on CiN night.

What are you talking about? Obviously the idea is not to compete so as to best serve the audience - who tend to watch both shows. TV execs are using common sense and the BBC is not a commercial network. The BBC vs ITV thing on this thread is plain weird.

And how on earth does that benefit the BBC?


I agree, it's utterly bizarre.

The BBC shouldnt be moving a show, its number one show, earlier, to accomodate something on the other side. Strictly has been in that slot for months now and it should be on at 7:30 on that night. Im more annoyed with the BBC for bottling out again.

It doesnt best serve the audience either, some Strictly viewers are going to be caught out by the earlier start and miss the important semi-final results. X Factor will only be padding for the first 30 minutes, most likely 90 minutes, anyway.

Just Like how the corrie fans are playing the 50th week episodes down when it's so clear that Corrie will beat EastEnders and even last night during that Enders/Corrie special they had to get the tram in their too

Pretty good for CIN. Wasn't expecting it to be down on last year though. However, 9.1m is a solid figure! The soaps did OK, excluding the 2nd Corrie that was hit very badly. Such a shame as it's really on top of it's game right now as we approach the 50th anniversary week!

IAC was injured too, and it was the best episode of the series so far IMO. Loving the show this year!

As for the US imports...just awful all round. The Event really is bombing now. It's not a bad show to be honest and deserves a better day IMO. The Mentalist is really struggling. Not sure why the big dip from last series, but I'm still not 100% convinced with this series so far. It doesn't seem to be as good as last year. Hopefully things will pick up soon!

Yes I agree. I dont think there is any reason why the BBC should not have kept what is the shows usual slot.

As for CIN-ITV's schedule is immensely strong so it proves that "event" tv is special to the public. I watched 6 hours worth but Im still not quite sure what was showing at the highest peak at 20.20-I would hazard a guess its around the time of the Mcfly/Saturdays SCD segment which was surprisingly good. The second peak was arguably the best ever CIN sketch-the Corrie/EE join up which actually deserved more. Interesting that the numbers tailed off a bit at 9.30-again arguably because the ubiquitous Barrowman arrived on the screen-especially as he had a ridiculous suit on.

Yes it was BBC1 which kept moving its show.ITV confirmed recently there is an agreement this year that neither the Saturday nor Sunday shows clash (as there is an agreement that Corrie and EE do not clash).This seems to be to avoid both networks being inundated with complaints from the public.

I didn't even know it was on until looking on the EPG last night. Whereas in previous years I've had all the build up from Radio 2.

Children in Need had a good peak last night and averaging 9m + over 3 hrs on a Friday night is really very good. It's nice that we have these good cause telethons that still rate so well, especially given they are on twice a year now.
For Coronation St, on the basis that I prefer to judge full slot ratings (its a commercial channel), it did very poorly last night; however given that it finished 5mins early and only had 3.89 in the 20:55-21:00 slot, tape checked and including HD it would rise to about 6.4m for the actual program viewing.

So why have ITV moved their tanks onto the BBC's lawn by scheduling the second 2 hours of the TXF Finalathon at the same time as SCD's Sunday results, forcing the Beeb to move it?

Pretty decent for CIN. I didn't really think it had as much of a build up last night as we've seen before (ie. last year had the Albert Hall concert the previous night), so I reckon it still did reasonably well. Both in terms of ratings and money raised.

ITV's schedule was naturally heavily damaged, but it'll all bounce right back. Tonight, we'll see just how much TXF can help IAC. It's been slipping viewers all week and - as has been noted - hasn't really been hitting the headlines. On it's own, we'd be predicting it could wind up falling and settling in the 7.5-8.5m zone. Won't happen though, as for the next two days XF gives it a golden chance to restore momentum with 15m lead-ins. It's incredibly valuable.

Good night for Children in Need; it may have been down but then everything appears to be. It'll be interesting to see how much HD boosts ITV - it tends to add around 0.5-0.8m on but it may have been lower than that last night. ITV did have a very poor night though - but if they'd made Coronation Street an hour long they'd only open themselves up to accusations of trying to hurt charity.

As for X Factor final weekend scheduling - Strictly Come Dancing does look strange at first, but bear in mind that they're having a show on Friday night (it isn't an extra show at all for pure ratings, no, BBC1 doesn't do that kind of thing...). Not quite sure why they've moved the results show back to 7pm though - maybe they feel it'll be hurt by The X Factor more than it'll hurt The X Factor.

I actually agree with you here to an extent. While I don't think the ITV schedule last night was wrong, and I support complimentary scheduling where possible - the BBC do seem quite happy to be pushed around here.

They seem to give the impression that they'll just shift and accommodate whatever ITV decides for TXF now. They could have left Strictly where it was, taken 8-9m, dented XF a little, and I'm sure ITV would then not do the same thing again and moved 8-10 (it's hardly like there's anything stopping them doing so).

Someone mentioned an agreement not to clash. I think SCD would definitely put a break on the overall figure-many SCD fans watch XF and there would be no point in them watching the first half hour of the overblown finale. The BBC are in the box seat to an extent-both the main show and the now separated results show are once again a bit of a thorn to XF-the problem last year was that people gave up on the ridiculous combined main/results show which was well beaten from the point XF started.

Possibly the cost of hiring the hall (not sure if they charged?) may have been a factor, and maybe it's considered to be more powerful as a one off rather than a yearly thing, plus they'd have to constantly think about how to better the year before to keep it fresh.
