If there was an agreeement not to clash surely The X Factor shouldn't be moving back - unless this is something known from Day 1 for this year than The X Factor Final would air at 7.30?

I don't know they could do it every year. It seemed like Gary Barlow pulled in a lot of favours and roped people in to perform. I'm sure they'll repeat it at some point in the future, but maybe not as an annual thing.

In any case, CIN could definately have done with some related programming at some point in the preceeding week. I always think it helps Comic Relief (Kilimanjaro climb, Celebrity Apprentice. etc.)

I tend to agree. It looks as though the Beeb have sidestepped any bad press which would inevitably be an issue given the press attitude to the BBC. Basically it gives XF a free run-when lets face it alot of the finale will be throwaway filler played out to a huge audience.

I can't give you a source but I definitely remember a quote from Peter Fincham some weeks ago saying they had an agreement not to schedule TXF and SCD against each other, and had had such an agreement over Corrie/EE for some years.

Erm, no. Let's not forget that not clashing has helped both shows, and has helped Strictly bring in some of its biggest ratings.

ITV would have been better scrapping the second Corrie, paying money to Children in Need and airing the utterly fantastic 'East Street' (East Enders/Corrie) cross over as well.

It had some of the best writing on either soap in ages with great in jokes (who did write it???) Easily the best 'special' on the telethon in years.

When ITV started aggresively fighting for ratings against C I N a year or two back I said they would hopefully regret it as it is putting personal interest ahead of the spirit of an important night for charity.

With last nights figures they just have reaped the whirlwind.

Bit odd that they can agree deals over scheduling for X Factor versus Strictly to benefit their viewers but not to benefit the kids of the UK who are in need.

Wonder if ITV could do the unthinkable and compete next year by ALSO running their own Children in Need telethon? That way the ratings scrap would not hurt ITVs better shows with a momentum loss and they could do something good.

Even if it only consisted of the likes of Philip Schofield facing The Cube and Jeremy Kyle trying to make Katie Price and Peter Andre burry the hatchet () it would at least ensure that whatever was on the two main channels that Friday would benefit children in need not ITV shareholders in panic.

ITV already has a major fundraising/charity telethon - it runs for 6 months from August to December, 4 hours a week and supports Simon Cowell's quest for the Christmas Number 1 and the opportunity for him to make heaps of cash from the one-album wonders who emerge before they fade into obscurity.

I don't really know what promotion happens for CIN as, 1) I don't watch it and, 2) never really see anything to promote it. Not that it needs promoting much IMO. Most work places have dress down days for it to raise money so alot of people realise this way.

The issue is whether the BBC should vacate the 7.30 slot, which, whether by agreement or not, they appear to have done. There is no doubt that clashing dents both show-but in pure ratings terms XF would be affected the more as it is its finale.

Mostly nonsense. You act like they're moving it to 4 in the afternoon. 7pm is a good slot. I'd be stunned if it were to be any worse off at that time than if it were to clash with X Factor, and the chances it'll probably be better off avoiding it.

The idea that you actually believe it "doesn't best serve the audience" is laughable.

Your hatred for TXF really is extreme. I know your not a fan, but there's no denying the amazing year it's had. A show still building it's auidence in it's 7th year surely deserves some praise regardless what what you think of it. I can't wait for your reaction/excuses when the final ratings come in.

It's XF's big final night. It'll have a free run just like Strictly will for its the final the following weekend when ITV will be airing sweet FA.

It was very clever-apparently it was written by a chap who has moved from C/S to Eastenders and knows both sets of actors. Sorry-cant remember his name-it was posted on the CIN thread last night.

Daran Little. He is a very good writer. He also wrote the recent BBC 4 drama 'The road to Coronation Street' [and is also the main writer on The only way is Essex.]

It was written by Daran Little who used to write for Corrie for years (and he wrote 'The Road to Coronation Street' for BBC Four) and now writes for EastEnders.

is he responbile for some of the awful Kat/Alife stuff, such as seen in "EastStreet"?

I was quite surprised it was all recorded in one day but I guess these soap people are used to fast turn-rounds.

Most soaps can do an episode per day.

Provisional schedule has TBA at 9:30pm.

(BTW, Channel 4 has Elf in the pre-X Factor final slot like last year from 5:40pm to 7:30pm)

It seems only to be an agreement when it suits ITV, though, with XF moving into the SCD Results slot twice this autumn, and Coronation St putting in an early 8pm start against an EastEnders hour-long last November.

That Coronation St move didn't pay off last November, though, so it hasn't been done again this year.

I think it depends what they air at 9.30 whether they'd be willing to move The X Factor back to 8.00 or not. Of course, they could alwyas make the final 90 minutes, start it at 8 as always then have the 9.30 show whatever...
