The Apprentice rated a little lower than I would have expected but it's timeshifting well this series so will most likely end up rating similar to how last year's episodes were doing in the officials.

Poirot did fine filling in the 2hour slot last night but like Midsomer Murders, it's better suited to Sunday nights where it would get a higher rating. Murder on the Orient Express is going to be shown later this year - I wonder if that's going to air on Wednesday, Sunday or Christmas Day Saturday?

Million Pound Drop is doing very well for C4, especially the last two episodes. It's not a massive mega-hit but certainly a big improvement on how most programmes on Channel 4have been rating recently. It'll be interesting to see if they bring this back as a daily format like right now or a weekly show, as they're having a couple of episodes airing weekly later this series.

I think ridiculous is a bit strong. What else can ITV do to improve Tuesdays without an extra Corrie or Emmerdale? You say leave it how it is but its not working now. Corrie doesnt deserve to be bigger than the entire channel.
No one is saying Corrie is bigger than the entire channel but it is hardly in the best interests of a company to harm one of its biggest assets. As Roscoe explained, you only have to look at the Thursday episodes and see that they've been underperforming compared to how the episodes in the old slot did and most programmes at 9pm aren't making best use of the lead-in and getting 3-4m.

All that would happen by moving Corrie to Tuesdays is boost the Tuesday primetime share overall, but it would harm Corrie itself which could have a negative knock-on effect on other episodes due to people giving up on the show due to all the scheduling changes, decrease ITV's primetime shares on Monday, Thursday & Friday, while also giving the BBC opportunities to try some sitcoms in good slots such as 7.30pm on Fridays.

It's pretty clear ITV knows that Tuesday is their worst day and have written it off, hence why all the cheap documentaries and factual entertainment programmes are airing there, getting low ratings but aren't loss-making. Anything remotely expensive or half-decent tends to get shown on another day. Ways in which they could increase their Tuesday ratings would be to commission drama specifically for Tuesday and big live entertainment formats but 1) that would be more expensive and loss-making (especially in the drama case) and 2) dramas and live entertainment shows tend to be given better slots which suit them more (Sunday/Monday for drama and weekend for live shows). So they're basically left with 'factual entertainment' programming to dump on Tuesdays.

If they get the formula right, factual programming can get decent ratings such as WDYTYA on BBC1 and programmes on C4 and C5 do well for their channels. They just have to find the right show really and not be too obsessed with doing celebrity-focussed programmes (that's not a criticism of 71 Degrees North which is quite good but there seems to be a view at ITV that having someone like Amanda Holden or Claire Sweeney hosting a show will bring in viewers when really it's the content and format of the show which is the most important thing).

For all the criticism Who Wants to be a Millionnaire? gets, it does seem to hold up Tuesday's when it is on as it claims a stable, if unmagnificent 3m+ in the 8pm slot. I think the failure of Fiddles, Cheats and Scams had a knock on affect on 71 Degrees North, which I think does have potential on a better night.
An hour is a lot for wishy-washy light factuals, such as Fiddles, Cheats and Scams and others. There might be better ratings in pairing two 30-minute shows to fill an hour.

It wouldn't require commissioning any extra hours. Two series of 3x60 will fill the same amount of airtime as two series of 6x30.

Hear, hear. The way it occasionally pops up randomly on a Sunday with little fanfare is always a source of great bemusement.

ITV1 should invest more in factual as it can rate really well. The authored journeys have done decently for them as have docusoaps like Holloway and The Lakes. The Perpectives strand should be interesting but I hope it's on at 9pm rather than after the news.

Does anyone know when The Human Planet is meant to air, I'm guessing early 2011 as it was meant to air this year. Frozen Planet which is the follow up to Blue Planet and Planet Earth is either late 2011 or 2012.

I suppose ITV's next assessment of the soap scheduling will come when they know what football rights they're going to have from the 2012/13 season onwards? I think next sesaon is the last one on the current deals.

You do realise there is this thing with a few people in a jungle in a few weeks, which means Corrie will have to move out of the 8:30pm on a few days probably?

Hello, long-time lurker here, 'bout time I shared my "wisdom" and thoughts with the rest of you.

Sunday Nov 13th, 9pm BBC1 - Garrows Law returns for a four parter.
Monday Nov 14th 9pm BBC1 - Accused - Jimmy McGoverns new series, six of them.

And apparently, Silent Witness is supposed to transmit before Xmas, but I think that is unlikely as that's the Sun/Mon slots out of action til the end of the year...

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be any room for it.

Human Planet is running late, filming is still underway and will probably not be ready til well into 2011. Frozen Planet filming is now done, and half the series has been film edited. Half still to do and then music and narration to record. On track for the Spring but transmission will probably be next Autumn, which has always been the plan.

Thanks for the info, I'm assuming Aurelio Zen and South Riding will debut in 2011 rather than 2010. South Riding I would have thought would air in November given its only a three parter.

Paula Abdul's new CBS reality series, Live To Dance (UK title - Got To Dance) looks likely to go head-to-head with American Idol. LTD launches on Tuesday 4th January with a 2 hour episode before moving to Wednesdays 8-9pm. If it sticks to the usual pattern, Idol will launch on the 11th and have episodes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8pm.

The most exciting casting project of pilot season seems certain to be the remake of Charlie's Angels. ABC's new Brit boss, Paul Lee, has ordered a pilot of the show which has been hanging around at ABC for a while.

Fresh off the news that MTV have ditched The City, Audrina Patridge is to get her own show on VH1. Previously in development at MTV, the show is being Executive Produced by reality TV super-producer, Mark Burnett. MTV seem to have moved on with Jersey Shore and Teen Mom - I just assumed this project would be ditched entirely. Though I can't see it working on VH1 either.

Medium's time looks to be coming to an end. Saved by CBS in 2009, the network has cut the order to 13 episodes. The shows creator is to focus on development at CBS in-house studio - never a good sign! The show has been rating badly on Fridays at 8pm.

FOX have changed Ride-Along to The Chicago Code. According to creator Shawn Ryan, "changing the title from Ride-Along to The Chicago Code reflects our belief that this is more than just a cop show. It’s not just about the police, but also politics, the Midwest, history, Government corruption and the city's code. Plus adding ‘Chicago’ to anything is always a good idea." The Chicago Code is one of only 2 dramas ordered by FOX this year (the other being Lone Star) and gets a House lead-in from midseason.

ABC have ordered 5 more scripts from Off The Map. The series now has a total order of 13 episodes and 6 further scripts despite the fact that it won't air until midseason.

Interesting that they launching it on a Tuesday prempting NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles although I guess it will mean fewer repeats later on but I assume that'll mean there won't be a results show.

Off the Map I assume if it is a hit will probably move episodes from season 1 to season 2 like they did with Grey's Anatomy which had 14 episodes in its first season but only air 9 episodes with the remaining 4 episodes in season 2.

January is the usual start time, I imagine they don't start it earlier due to contracts as FX have season 8 episodes playing at the moment and they don't want Five starting too early.

ITV are showing "Farewell Jack" on Weds 10th November - 19:30 up against Wallace and Gromit

I thought this would be between the two Corrie episodes on either Monday or Friday.

Provisional schedules for week beginning 13th November for BBC already up. Sunday and Monday at 9pm is blank, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday have Turn Back in Time, Apprentice and the comedys as expected, and don't forget Friday 19th is Children in Need all night. ITV's will probably all be TBA's, even though we know what will be there.

No sign of a rescheduled EastEnders in the provisionals, so it looks like only 3 episodes maybe that week.
They will do what they did last year and wait for a big episode and have an hour special to catch up rather then running a 2 normal episodes in one or catch up on Christmas as im sure it will air from Mon to the following Wednesday(only missing the weds) as xmas day is a Saturday and Boxing day a sunday so there's still extra episodes

Obviously Worried about going against that 'BIG' soap on BBC 1 Mondays and Fridays at 8:00pm (inbetween Corrie eps)

You assume correctly but in any event AZ has got more chance than SR. AZ could transmit tomorrow if there was a slot but there isn't. South Riding only finished filming two weeks ago, so that won't be ready for a few weeks yet. There should be a couple of Sunday slots in December spare, maybe one of these will end up there....

Do you have any idea what date The Royal Variety Performance is airing on BBC1? The only slot I can see free would be Sunday 12th December, the date of The X Factor final...

Edit: Ah, it could air on Tuesday 14th December between 8pm and 10pm.
