A couple of provisional dates for some ITV shows over Xmas:
Benidorm: Christmas Special- Monday 27th December Poirot: Murder on the Orient Express- Friday 31st December The provisional schedules can change a lot once the schedules are confirmed but that's the dates they're put down as at the moment. Benidorm is longer than the usual hour. As for Poirot, I'm surprised it's currently down for New Year's Eve since it's one of the worst nights for TV. Maybe they're showing it earlier in the Xmas period and that's a repeat airing?. |

Just a note, the weather forecasts offer a distinct colder look for the end of this week, with a possibility for snow for many, more so if you're up North.
Could see an increase in ratings towards the end of the week and into next weekend. |

Children in Need Ratings
2000 - n/a 2001 - 7.12m 2002 - 7.56m 2003 - 10.49m and 5.33m 2004 - 8.48m and 4.77m 2005 - 9.07m and 4.59m 2006 - 7.72m and ?.??m 2007 - 9.56m and 4.48m 2008 - 9.83m and 4.82m 2009 - 10.08m and 4.50m It's been well watched for the past 9 years, 2000 isn't there, so that may have rated low. Apart from a dip in 2006, it's always been ~8/9m, sometimes higher. |

My thoughts exactly, it has an appeal across the board and hits the right demographics. I'd say women with children are very well represented in its audience. It would be very wrong to say TXF viewers are chavs who read The Daily Star and only watch ITV.

Drop Zone starting now on BBC1. In what can only be considered a graveyard slot. Is this because of the reaction to the similar 71 Degrees North? Or because it's presented by Steve Jones?

Although I don't have Sky, I'm guessing it isn't a standalone channel as it's also available in Virgin's XL pack, which is why I've got it. But don't forget, it's against the law to criticise Sky Arts because Sky are Investing In The Arts, despite the fact nobody watches it. In fact I'm seriously considering unsubscribing from Broadcast if they print yet another uncritical and fawning article about Sky Arts.

In TV ratings terms this means big figures for news bulletins, especially BBC Regional News! There's not much new in the schedules late next week though, so the potential for another Whitechapel looks limited. |

I wonder why there was such a big dip in 2006? Did ITV have a strong schedule?

Only looks like wintry showers anyway, so nothing to get excited about I think. Unless we get "snow day" quantities, I doubt there will be any difference - we've seen the seasonal lift for this winter I think.

For me, Benidorm seems to have been given a very strange air date - I thought it did well in the demos so why not air it before Christmas? It seems in a bit of a nothing slot there. Poirot is slightly more understandable as, like Marple, it appears to bring in more in terms of international sales than through advertising. I thought that it may have been used as the 9pm fodder on Christmas Day, though.
Back to last night and great ratings for Strictly Come Dancing, Merlin, TV Burp and The X Factor. I wonder why I'm A Celebrity took a dip in comparison to last year. Nothing to worry about, obviously, but needs to be kept an eye on. The Xtra Factor is just plodding to a conclusion now; another shock result tonight may see a boost I guess. Casualty performed well considering it had the Lottery sucking viewers away from BBC1 and Match of the Day had a good night. |

Far be it for me to give ITV scheduling tips, but if I had to find a home for Benidorm, I'd be tempted to go for 9.30pm after the TXF final.
Yes, it's a Christmas special and it's a fortnight too soon, but everyone will have their tree and trimmings up by the 12th - and BBC1 will no doubt have had its ident up and running for 24 hours (although I do hope they will wait till just before the SCD Final on the 18th). That said, if it's as bad as recent Benidorm efforts, then maybe they do want to bury it... |

Sky Arts 1's top ten ranges from 16,000 to 9,000, yet nearly 600,000 watch it during the week. |

I'm not sure if The Paul Burling Show is for ITV1 or ITV2 which is why I didn't put it in the list, but you could be right in that it may be for ITV1.

Massive risk. Most people will see "The Paul Burling Show" in the EPG and won't have the foggiest clue who he is, even if they watched BGT.
![]() Or he might be the new Paul Squire, a comedian who had 4 series with 3 different titles switching between BBC1 and ITV between 1981 and 1983 despite nobody ever knowing who he was, even when they were watching his show. |

Anyway when the reveal came no one knew who Paul Squire was. A bit unfair really-if I remember rightly he was a big hit at a Royal performance -ending with a regulation Frank Spencer impression. He was a product of a time when it seemed tv execs toured Butlins with metal detectors hoping to unearth a redcoat(not that I know if Mr Squire was ever at Butlins) . Still not everyone can say they had the primetime Saturday night slot on BBC1-even if it was only for the one series. |
