I think your right-as long as XF is up there giving it huge lead-ins it will profit. Very poor tv though imo.

Those bright sparks at Channel 4 have scheduled a Hollyoaks late night special at 10pm on 16th December opposite the series finale (excluding Christmas special) of Misfits on E4.

You just couldn't make it up, could you?

Exactly. It's the two weekend editions with The X Factor lead ins which have done well. And isn't the second Sunday edition down on last week even though it had a more viewers leading into it?

Still getting 8-9 million across a week is not to be sniffed at.

Get your salt ready people but I heard from a friend today that Peter Fincham has signed off a "retooling" of the primetime ITV1 schedule architecture, to launch in "early 2011" and that the changes will affect - yes, wait for it - Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

No further details were given, but this same source correctly tipped me off about the Thursday plans and The Bill's move a few weeks before they were announced. However they incorrectly told me a News at Seven was planned a couple of years back, and that didn't come to fruition, so who knows if this is correct. Personally, I can't see what might change. Corrie on Tuesdays? Back to Sundays? Both have issues.

ITV is axing Corrie & Emmerdale?

Ha, is that a joke? I seriously doubt it.

I've been trying to figure out what might change, it better not involve more clashes. I'd like to think a reduction in episodes might be on the cards for Emmerdale, but again, I doubt it.

Oh no, James. What have you done telling us that? Here come a hundred odd ITV1 fantasy schedules covering every possible scenario...

Personally I can't think of anything more unexciting than ITV1 rejigging its soap scheduling. They rarely seem to stick to it anyway. But I know many will be salivating at the prospect of the Thursday episode of Corrie possibly being moved, as many fans see it as the weak link in an otherwise strong and effective scheduling pattern.

Correction - he did an impression of Harry Hill. He was seriously over rated on the show and a one trick pony at best - far better acts have been on BGT which would be more deserving of the special! The Wood Chopper for example!

Despicable isn't it that they have to put the rights of the bullies who vote over the welfare of the contestants.

To be fair I think Any Human Heart is in a good slot, though is probably getting hurt more by Garrows Law than I'm a Celeb. It's the single screening strategy which makes no sense - no reason why it can't have at least one repeat slot on More4 plus a repeat on C4 too.

It is the one thing they have got wrong with the revamp as it has lost all the tension without the dance off.

You could watch the last 2 minutes and ignore the rest without a proper battle via a dance off.

It has also started to effect who goes through as the judges have lost that extra edge they had in voting through the better dancers from a bottom two. Meaning it is now exclusively a popularity contest all the way through which is bound to come back and bite one day soon.

Indeed in the US the row over precisely this (ref their useless dancer but popular entrant) is leading to suggestions to weight the judges verdict over the public vote somehow....exactly as it was to this year in the UK.

We do not watch the X Factor at all but always watch the last 20 minutes of the results show as it has tension, a sing off and the drama of the vote.

There is no such driving force to do the same with Strictly. It is nearly all filler.”

I don't know if the BBC release the breakdown like ITV do with The X Factor, but considering both on Strictly and Dancing on Ice the worst scoring celebs are rarely in the bottom two it does suggest they could hand control completely to the public and basically the same people would probably be eliminated on viewers votes alone each week.

That way they can then bring the Dance Off back and give the judges the last say, but don't make the mistake of last year where the judges not only made up 50% of the score, had the vote in the dance off and then the casting vote in event of a tie.

My money is on Misfits winning that ratings battle. Pure stupidity - C4 just seems to be scheduling slot by slot at the moment with nobody looking at the bigger picture, and they're just not looking after their brands and protecting them - i.e. The Secret Millionaire.

Talking C4, Sarah Beeny is to host BBC1 series Village SOS - not sure if she's jumping ship completely, or if she'll still do shows for C4. They ruined Property Ladder when they stupidly decided to focus on two houses per show, completely losing the narrative of each development which made the earlier series worth watching!

The only rescheduling which would be "exciting" is if Corrie is stripped at 7.30pm as that really opens up the playing field at 8pm - but we know that's not going to happen as such a plan would cost money - plus the BBC would need to blink first and move EastEnders. I don't think ITV would be brave enough to try and force EE out of it's slots.

Even if they both agreed then did that, anything ITV aired at 8 opposite EastEnders would then be doomed to failure anyway.

Or telling UEFA that if they don't move the kick-offs to 8.15 Peter Fincham is coming round there with a baseball bat.

I remember Paul Squires. PS It's Paul Squires was a very popular show. Then he did one series for BBC1 and I never saw him on TV again.

Why is the Daily Mail claiming that "Come Fly With Me" will be on Christmas Day?

Quote:
“As well as the remakes and spin-offs there will also be more modern looking shows such as Little Britain pair Matt Lucas and David Walliams new comedy Come Fly With Me on December 25th.”

seems unlikely to me.

Well, it would be a wise move to put it there IMO.

Gavin & Stacey got a huge boost by being on Christmas Day last year. So why not give a new 6 part series the best start possible and putting the first episode on Christmas Day? (22:30ish)

Possible I guess, just didnt think it would happen.

Im going to end up wathcing BBC 1 all evening, and most of the afternoon if they show the right Pixar movie.

Yeah, if I were the BBC I'd put on Wall-E & Shrek The Third. Both of these could get huge figures!

Because that's when it's going to be shown, continuing on Saturday's in Jan 2011...

both? whichever one didnt get the post Queen spot would be wasetd in the earlier slot.

Lets not forget there is no room for a second movie, unless that is all you show 3:10pm - 7pm, 2 Pixar movies. Then EE, Doctor Who, Come Fly With Me

Didn't ITV allready try that by putting Emmerdale as an hour every Thursday which was clearly for the BBC to move EastEnders so Corrie can have the 7:30pm slot.
It failed

I think the BBC have got it right with EastEnders 8:00pm,7:30pm,7:30pm,8;00pm and that how it should and will stay.

yeah I see no reason the BBC should move EE, if ITV want to try and force it, let them be open about it.

I agree. Those are the only two animated movies I'd show on Christmas Day. Put Cars on Boxing Day.

Do we know when the trailers will start?

It does seem to lose 1-2 million viewers when TXF isn't on before it and did badly against CIN, although this is a long running tradition with big ratings. I have heard a few people say the format is tired and I would give it until its tenth anniversary. Perhaps an ITV creative renewal like Channel 4 had.
