Why ? There are dozens of shows on US TV like Kyle
Fantastic performance for IAC really to be up on the equivalent episode last year and last Mondays episode, especially considering last year had the KP boost. The boost must have been due to the Gillian factor and the subject matter on Accused not as mainstream.
Both Emmerdale and TOS rating excellently in the 7pm slot. OK for Corrie, but I'd start to like to see a bit of a boost in the run up to its big episodes. What has struck me is that ITV haven't actually advertised there's a live episode on the Thursday. They're just advertising the episodes as 'four funerals and a wedding', like they would with any other big week. The advert is excellent, but I'm not sure we'll be seeing 14m+ ratings.

Wow - great news re George Dixon.
I wonder if that explains BBC1's abject surrender on the TXF final weekend scheduling front yesterday - he's off, and so pursuing a scorched earth policy before he leaves? I fear for the Christmas schedules if that's the case!
That he and Jay Hunt both rate each other so highly that they have been quickly reunited speaks volumes about both.
I think BBC1 is in better shape without these two involved in its affairs.

Not a good drama - an unnecessary slur on our armed forces at a time when thousands of our men are stuck out in Afghanistan, and their families back home were served up this.
It should not have been commissioned, let alone broadcast, in my view.

To paraphrase Jimmy McGovern it was a work of fiction. McGovern's a story teller, not a documentary maker. He's not saying that this happens across army, or that it even happens at all, it was a morality tale.

But did you read the credits? There was a thank you to the author of A Squaddie's Story for help with this episode. Part fiction partly based on truth.
McGovern's work will win awards but not always viewers. He's just too grim!
lets face it even if Kyle left for the US, his US show will still air here, if not at the same time as his US show, on ITV 2

I know, it was inspired by his book, but it's still fiction and about the moral of the tale rather than actual happenings.

I just hope it means an end to really strong dramas being wasted on Fridays at 9pm.

Accused is great drama but too relentlessly grim for some people. I like light and fluffy as well as serious drama. Jimmy McGovern does grim very well but it will rarely have people watching as people don't want grim all the time.

Daybreak beginning to move in the right direction for ITV but it hasn't dented BBC Breakfast at all (in fact Breakfast is slightly up on last week). So have ITV found a new audience - anyone know if Sky's breakfast show has been affected ?

That's not all - the lunchtime edition is really gaining momentum now with 1 million viewers regularly tuning in per day - gaining three entries in Channel 5's top 30 for the last week of officials. Neighbours is strengthening again here in the UK, probably helped in part by the time of year, but still good to see.
Funny error on BARB - the teen drama Misfits on E4 has been mixed up with the 1961 western The Misfits. Classic!

I agree, there's room for both serious and light drama but some writers and critics seem to think that it should be just grim and gritty hence why Doctor Who has been given a bashing recently.
We might be seeing new highs for the reality/talent shows come the weekend. Severe weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for the whole of the eastern side of Britain on Saturday. Shame the snow day couldn't fall on a weekday for a bigger impact on tv ratings, but I could see these wintry conditions persisting well into next week with further falls of snow, such is the intensity of the northerly blast.

Hollyoaks did badly last Friday, with only 796k (3.9%). Its 6th lowest ever rating and 2nd lowest ever share. That was off the back of some pretty decent ratings recently as well so I'm not sure what caused it to take a dip. The other teatime soaps were at their normal levels that day and Children in Need didn't start until 7pm.
Looks like it recovered to 1.36m (including +1) last night though.
