I do think people are under-estimating how Coronation Street's anniversary week will perform. We seen with EastEnders how much the audience grew in anniversary week, and given that there's a few big storylines coming up, I will be extremely surprised if the live episode cannot break 13 million viewers in the overnights.

In its normal half an hour slot, excluding over-run, EastEnders Live in the overnights this year had 14.91m (54.6%).

Some impressive ratings yesterday, mainly the soaps and The Little House. I'm sure there's been a slight increase in Emmerdale's shares recently, because usually it's at 33% but recently it's been getting 35% more and more often. Corrie's re-established its Monday & Friday lead over EE recently, even though a month ago EE was beating it more often than not. I can see that gap getting bigger as Corrie edges towards its 50th anniversary.

I was expecting a million or so less for The Little House because new non-crime dramas on weeknights haven't rated too well for ITV in recent years and thought it'd rate similar to Bouquet of Barbed Wire/The Children level of ~5m. Spooks was dented a little bit but it's been consistent all series around that 5m mark.

Coppers did well for C4 in a tough slot and the good thing for them is that it's a 5-part series rather than a one-off so it should prop up C4's Monday average for the foreseable future. Hollyoaks did relatively well too so it looks like those billboards was a good idea.

Excluding the over-run, EE Live averaged 15.6m (58%) between 8-8.30pm. Even better than the tape-checked reported figure!

I agree with you regarding Corrie that it should get more than 13m in the overnights. At the moment I'm not expecting it to get EE levels but 13m should be achievable with all the marketing, hype, press, live element it'll be given in the next month or so.

LOL. Corrie didn't kickstart the soap genre in the United Kingdom,

It isn't even ITV's first soap opera. I refer you to Emergency Ward 10, a medical soap opera which began on ITV in 1957.

The first UK Television Soap is generally regarded to be The Grove Family a series broadcast on the BBC between 1954 and 1957. You can read more about it here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Grove_Family

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A69865122

The BBC also have a successful radio soap The Archers which first transmitted in 1950! A full ten years before Corrie even started. It is still going strong today and is now the UK's longest running soap.

This debate over who's copying who is pathetic. Some of you need to grow up.

yes im no Corrie fan, but I would not be at all surprised if Corrie: Live was better rated than Eastenders: Live, it is maybe wrong to say that EE is the No1 soap in the UK.

I would be more surprisd if EE came out the winner, that really would be a low point for Corrie

Just seen ITV's schedule - on Sunday 14th October, The X Factor is starting at 19:45.

I don't understand why they're extending that particular episode, and its ratings will be dented due to clashing against Strictly Come Dancing. I'm 90% sure that episode will rate worse than last year's equivalent rating of 14.3m.

Is The One show up since Adrian & Christine went to Daybreak, or is that normal Schooltime ratings? Thanks

Tony Warren actually put the idea of Coronation Street to the BBC first. He never heard back from them so went to Granada. The rest is history.

With the possible exception of Five, all other channels benefited greatly from the clock changes. Soaps did very well, in particular Emmerdale and Corrie, while Little House did well.

As for Daybreak, a one off rise, or a permanent rise?”

I said it wouldn't be a permanent dip, the portion of the GMTV viewer base who were never going to like the/a new format but gave it a go have abandoned it and now viewers who weren't viewers / were casual viewers of GMTV are slowly (re?)discovering it.

The share is exactly the same as last monday's episode though, that had 0.6m. Its just a case of more people watching TV at that time and some watching ITV1.

Just for the record the BBC 1 Wales schedules on the Sky EPG have NOT been altered and are still showing an incorrect 90 minute Snowdonia episode and no New Tricks.

Let us hope someone at the BBC or Sky are reading this thread.

Presumably when BBC 1 HD launches tomorrow it WILL have the right schedule - though it should do as it is a BBC 1England simulcast even in Wales. So Snowdonia will not be on there at all.

Brilliant to see Coronation Street hitting 10m. Hopefully this will now be a regular occurence now the clocks have gone back and the 50th anniversary is approaching...

The Little House is a really great non crime drama, so I'm glad to see it edging close to 6m.

Emmerdale is doing extremely well. I won't be too surprised if the 8pm Thursday episode starts getting over 8m over the next few weeks and months.

Hollyoaks has also seen a healthy rise... I hope this continues

Hmm, well that is the night Take That, JLS and Westlife are all performing - but as we saw on Sunday, they can squeeze in three guest performances. Unless of course the finalists also do a separate group performance this time.

Or Take That do The Flood and another track? But ratings might not suffer that much with the line-up.

Is the lineup that great? Westlife seem to pop up every year and JLS are former contestants.

I suppose to get all three in the one show is good going but I don't think it's as impressive a lineup as people are making out.

As you say, we've seen them all before - on their own it would be a bit dull. But I think putting them all onto one show gives it a bit of a twist. I actually didn't think they'd get them all onto one show. It will basically be a mini-X Factor on Sunday night with the 3 biggest boybands in the UK performing and being compared. Plus, it's Take That back with Robbie again.

They should be able to generate quite a bit of hype around it. But I think they're wasting it with the extra running time. They got away with it last year for one of the episodes but this time it's against Strictly. And the first 15 minutes will be the group performance and the recap which I can't see anyone turning over from right at as the result is being revealed on BBC1.

There's virtually no difference, same Monday last year it was 5.01 million, yesterday 4.9m.

Daybreak will get some breathing space now if the ratings rebound a bit. I doubt the papers will be running stories that Daybreak is up 60% versus last week somehow?

They seem to have gone from one extreme to the other now though in terms of shots used. There are no wide shots at all now even when they make sense such as handing over to news or sport or weather.
