Sky News Sunrise is gradually increasing its audience.
It's been on top form recently, if ITV could simulcast it, they would close the gap on BBC Breakfast!! And a 4k increase over the last 2 years isn't much to boast about when Breakfast has increased by 400k over the same period and thats before the BBC news channel simucast is added! |

These are the DS soap ratings from the last 2 weeks for Hollyoaks, half of them still below 1million. (the last Fri includes +1)
W/B Oct 11th Monday - 1.1m (5.6%) Tuesday -1.17m (6.1%) Wednesday - 974k (4.8%) Thursday - 1.05m (5.3%) Friday - 882k (4.6%) W/B Oct 18th Monday - 1.15m (5.4%) Tuesday - 960k (4.7%) Wednesday - 975k (5.8%) Thursday - 1.04m (5.2%) Friday - 0.99m [inc +1] Let's hope the clock change and the Hollyoaks Later publicity does something for it by next week. |

This year CH4 have tried so many things: -New producer -New credits -Classy promotion on the main channel -Axing of many characters -A lot of new family units -Another Hollyoaks Later -Getting rid of the E4 showings for a week -Return of a huge character -Huge Dog In The Pond style explosion The last 2 on the list really are the last chance I think. There isn't really much more Ch4 can do and it's obvious they are not happy with the current ratings. |

The reason Hollyoaks is suffering IMO is because young people have so many other sources of entertainment to choose from these days. A daily soap is too much of a commitment.
Ratings might improve if it went back to airing just a few nights a week, but I can't see them going back to that. So I reckon it will be axed next year. |

it would be a slow death like Brookside. Soaps are commissioned for a year or so ahead, so it'd probably go down to an omnibus only (like Brookie) to see out its demise.
- Complete axe - Move to E4 only - T4 Sunday only |

The original source stated it was a record low, which I suspect means it had between 560,000 and 620,000 seeing as the previous low was 630,000. For ITV's sake, it better be the higher end of that range, because if its at the bottom end, alarm bells may be ringing.
Confirmed: Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards Wednesday, 10 November 2010, 8:00PM - 10:00PM And ITV1 to air Take That documentary in November: http://www.itv.com/presscentre/press...t/default.html With I'm a Celebrity on throughout the majority of November, I've no idea where that will end up going. My only guess is 7:30 to 8:30 on a Tuesday or Wednesday. real tough choice... |

OK- so axe Daybreak, then what?
Launch ITV Breakfast with some good morning presenters? Move the ITV Morning News to 6am-7am. Keep Lorraine in her current slot, 8:30-9:25. That leaves the problem of 7am-8:30. They should also increase the regional news, the current very short bulletins are worthless. |

Accused press pack up at BBC Press Office: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pre.../accused.shtml
And some other ratings from last night: BBC One vs ITV1 21:00 - 5.1m (20.4%) vs 5.2m (20.9%) 21:15 - 5.1m (20.5%) vs 4.9m (19.6%) 21:30 - 5.1m (20.7%) vs 4.6m (18.7%) 21:45 - 5.2m (21.4%) vs 4.7m (19.1%) BBC Three 19:00 - Merlin: 459,000 (2.1%) 19:45 - Doctor Who: 347,000 (1.5%) 20:30 - Freak Like Me: 392,000 (1.6%) 21:00 - The World's Strictest Parents: 843,000 (3.5%) 22:00 - EastEnders: 898,000 (4.6%) 22:30 - My School Prom: 369,000 (2.7%) BBC Four 20:30 - Only Connect: 550,000 (2.3%) 21:00 - A History of Horror with Mark Gatiss: 458,000 (1.9%) 22:00 - FILM: Dawn of the Dead: 347,000 (2.7%) 00:20 - A History of Horror with Mark Gatiss: 141,000 (3.7%) CBBC 17:15 - The Sarah Jane Adventures: 670,000 (4.9%) --------------------------------------------------------------------- And an F1 round-up from Sunday: BBC One 06:00 - Formula 1: The Korean Grand Prix: 1.33m (34.9%) * peak: 2.6m (35.7%) at 09:00 09:30 - The Andrew Marr Show: 1.4m (16.1%) * lost head-to-head versus the F1 on BBC2 14:00 - Formula 1: The Korean Grand Prix: 2.0m (16.2%) 15-Minute Breakdown 06:00 - 0.6m (44.7%) 06:15 - 0.6m (39.6%) 06:30 - 0.8m (43.7%) 06:45 - 0.9m (45.9%) 07:00 - 1.2m (49.1%) 07:15 - 1.3m (44.2%) 07:30 - 1.2m (36.4%) 07:45 - 1.2m (31.0%) 08:00 - 1.5m (31.3%) 08:15 - 1.6m (29.4%) 08:30 - 1.7m (29.4%) 08:45 - 2.2m (32.7%) 09:00 - 2.6m (35.7%) 09:15 - 2.5m (31.9%) 09:30 - 1.3m (15.5%) <-- Andrew Marr starts 09:45 - 1.3m (14.6%) 10:00 - 1.5m (17.6%) 10:15 - 1.5m (16.6%) BBC Two 09:30 - Formula 1: The Korean Grand Prix: 1.59m (18.6%) * peak: 1.9m (22.1%) at 09:45 15 Minute Breakdown 09:30 - 1.6m (19.6%) 09:45 - 1.9m (22.1%) 10:00 - 1.5m (18.1%) 10:15 - 1.3m (14.6%) So the F1 lost about 0.5m to 1.0m viewers when it switched. Andrew Marr rated lower than its usual ~1.9m as well. Had the F1 stayed on BBC One, I can probably guarantee its audience would have increased to ~3m at a peak. Including the re-run, the F1 had 3.39m, second lowest rating of the season. --------------------------------------------------------------------- And: itvpresscentre Confirmed: @ITV1 Piers Morgan's Life Stories on 9.30pm Saturday 6 November is with Susan Boyle. #itvpresscentre 3 minutes ago Eric Cantona: Looking For Manchester Monday, 8 November 2010, 10:35PM - 11:20PM The Zoo Tuesday, 9 November 2010, 8:00PM - 9:00PM (our prediction of another documentary I think was wrong) Farewell Jack Wednesday, 10 November 2010, 7:30PM - 8:00PM |

as i said over there I would take this with a big bucket of salt. this report is basically a rehash of a story from about 3 weeks ago. so a journo finally spots the article and rewrites it as new news basically.
Where next for Daybreak though? It feels increasingly inevitable now that Christine (and possibly Adrian as well) will somehow be lost along the way. |

Georged123 - I was just gonna reply to your PM, but thought this might be worth posting here re:Countryfile's lower official viewing figures compared to overnights this is the reply I got from Kantar Quote:
I’m not sure which audience you are referring to as the overnights audience, but I’m presuming you mean the network audience figure for the time that Countryfile was shown. basically what they're saying is that the original estimated overnights just looked at the timeslot for BBC1 and worked out the number of people watching the channel. The programme was not completely networked (it was shown in Wales at 2000 that day) so the network audience for the programme in the top 30 report will exclude that figure, which should account for the difference. when the final programme logs were submitted they took into account that people in Wales were watching a different programme (and CF was in a different slot), so the consolidated figure was lower I've learnt something today, it's possible for overnights to be higher than consolidated figure something to bare in mind guys

it's not plausible that ITV would axe Daybreak in a few weeks (or at all). Whatever form the programme takes by this time next year, I'm sure it'll still be called 'Daybreak'.

Ratings might improve if it went back to airing just a few nights a week, but I can't see them going back to that. So I reckon it will be axed next year. A lot of people like to mock Hollyoaks but it actually deals with some serious issues and different stories that are relevant to a younger audience and it is a great source for introducing new talent. I hope that the clocks going back will mean a slight boost. It needs to be above 1.5m consistently all week for it to return to a respectable level. In Bryan's day, ratings were around 2m and that was only back in 2007/2008 so I think it's very possible that Hollyoaks can be saved and go back up to those levels as there's clearly an audience for it. It's just finding that audience again. I don't think it's too difficult either to keep up with a daily soap - there's E4, the Sunday omnibus and you can catch up online, with past episodes of up to a month being available. I catch up online because of other commitments, as I'm sure many other people do. |

i wouldnt disagree that could happen in the end. i just dont think we are there yet. if it does happen i think they would offer alternative shows to them either together or seperately. who knows they could even do a 5pm show?
I'm not convinced ITV has the infrastructure to make a copycat show, though. If they eventually end up giving the duo a 5pm show, I suspect it would be mainly a chat show, with very few inserts, and little if anything in the way of a team of reporters. |

Daybreak got a record low rating because its half term. GMTV used to fall from around 0.9m to 0.6-7m during school holidays. There was a big shift productionwise in Daybreak yesterday so I think they should let November pan out before making any quick or big decisions, but they need to start work on their plan B as soon as possible for a potential launch in January.
Million Pound Drop did fine, it started late and ended 8 minutes early, the timechecked figure should put it above 2m (if that figure isn't timechecked). the curiosity factor will have worn off and the advertising campaign for this one wasn't as good. |

Breakfast won't be effected as it runs to 9.15 so viewers lost at 7.30 will instead join them at 8.30, plus I imagine less school-run parents watch Breakfast. |

Well, on the previous occasion when ITV tried to poach Chiles and Bleakley (and, admittedly, others from The One Show) it was with an evening One Show copycat in mind, so you never know.
I'm not convinced ITV has the infrastructure to make a copycat show, though. If they eventually end up giving the duo a 5pm show, I suspect it would be mainly a chat show, with very few inserts, and little if anything in the way of a team of reporters. If ITV did a version of that at 5pm it would fail as its too early for that type of show. As you say, it would have to become more of a chat show but then they have Alan Titchmarsh already who would appeal to the same demographic. |

If that makes it financially necessary to shift the expense of Chiles and Bleakley to other ITV shows, so be it. |
