Well, it's been sat on the shelf for so long I thought it wasn't going to be great - but I still thought it'd make primetime or early evening somewhere! I sort of want to tune in now to see how bad it must be.
I presume budgets stop them shifting it to another channel - but surely, even if it were rubbish, it'd be worth a pre-SCD slot on Saturdays?

However, I think the biggest with Holes, Wipeout, and 101 Ways etc is that we have been utterly saturated, rather than being given breathing space. In isolation, each may not be seen as quite as bad!!!

Hole in the Wall had the problem in that it wasnt the 2 minute "Human Tetris" videos you see on YouTube, which is what people really wanted to see. Making a whole show out of that was just silly.
The best thing to be done was to make it part of a CBBC game show, replacing the water with gunge.
As for "The Event" its intersting that FlashForward did well on Five, but ratings didnt hold up for ABC, I suspect the same thing will happen for "The Event" unless something shocking happens.
I suspect that US shows when they debut in the UK, dont have the high peak that they might get when they started in the US, during the much hyped "fall season"

I have a few suggestions:

BBC Breakfast did go ahead as usual, but it was much more like a weekend edition, and from 8:30am they simulcasted with the news channel.

Indeed. It's Channel 4 fulfilling it's PSB commitments, just like Modern Masters was BBC1 fulfilling its PSB arts commitments. These programmes shouldn't always be pushed onto secondary channels or unattractivetime slots but instead an attempt shoiuld be made to reach a more mainstream audience. Not everything is about the ratings.

Makings things available on the main channel is important. Clearly the BBC accept this point - otherwise they wouldnt be moving big tennis matches to BBC1 from BBC2.
