its ITV, it may not launch to 2015, I still would not be surprsied at how long its taken them to do it.

To be fair, judging by the dwindling number of "why is ITV2/3+1 not showing x?" threads, I think these have become rarer over time as any rights issues have slowly been addressed. But with ITV1+1 threatening to launch, the caption could make a comeback.

I always thought that The Bill would get that caption, but its been axed now, so its no longer an issue

I think TV Burp will be ok, not sure about Primeval and some movies however.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing - but to be fair it was going to launch in October last year. But there was all the legal thing with CRR and then unlike C4 etc there've got the regions to deal with.

What have you made of the weekend's ratings so far, Joe?

With the success of Downton Abbey I wonder what the BBC will choose to do with their Upstairs Downstairs adaptation. There are bound to be comparisons and with DA getting in there first and doing so well, its suddenly rather sets UD up for some kind of fall. UD is said to be lavish and is three one-hour episodes.

The informed and reasoned chat last week for Million Pound Drop (Davina's quiz on Channel 4) interested me. Some really tough questions 1st week, until celeb couple Larry Lamb (EastEnders) and son George (Big Brother's Little Brother) came along.
Questions got a lot easier (final question - who was youngest in their 1st Bond film - Connery or Craig? (It was Connery, and they went home with 50k for charity)).
Not sure if MPD will see over 2.2million viewers again, but they sure lost at least 1 viewer for this stunt - me.

I can also answer why Sunday Morning Live (BBC1) is popular..... 53 people are interested in the debate, the rest are looking at Susanna Reid's legs

No doubt the secret to weekend Breakfast's success as well.

The Drop split opinion on the thread with that stunt, but I agree with you it was shortsighted and did more harm than good. I'm inclined to think the peak audience was more coincidental than anything else, as how would anybody have known George and Larry were going to be on?? That and the end to the stripped format have added to its downfall.

I'd hold it back till the start of September 2011...

I assume it will air around Christmas though. Whilst it's crying out for a Sunday night slot, I'm not sure I'd launch it on Boxing Day. I'd be inclined to go Bank Holiday Monday 27th, New Year Bank Holiday Monday 3rd Jan, regular Monday 10th.

I have a feeling though it will launch in the "safe" TXF-free pre-Christmas Sunday slot (19th Dec) after SPOTY.

Perhaps ep 2 could then air on Monday 27th (leaving Boxing Day free of heavy stuff), then the final ep airing on Sunday 2nd Jan?

While I do not follow Ozzie ratings closely I was there some years ago and Nine was very much the No 1 network (I think it called itself ''The One''). There seems to have been a gradual reversal of fortunes - has 9 gone down or is it just 7 is much better these days ?

Poor night for Channel 4, in particular Pillars of the Earth. Poor also for Armstrong and Miller, BBC1's lowest rating it seems wasn't against X Factor, but was instead against Morgan... while poor for Bon Jovi, its probably higher than anything else ITV1 would have had in that slot, so good in that respect.

BBC comedy hasn't been doing that great this year. First My Family underperforms, then Reggie Perrin, now Armstrong & Miller. And that A&M rating is really surprising considering it actually followed XF. Bodes extremely well for IAC which will have an easy time in most slots I reckon. Some of the BBC shows could prove very vulnerable.

Family Fortunes seems to be picking up a bit now with the clocks going back, but still not the 6m+ it was getting last year. Bit of a waste for One Night Only I think-it could have managed around ~5m with a direct XF lead in and I think it must have been a record the number of new programmes on ITV1 last night.

Pillars Of The Earth turns into a new CH4 flop, whilst CH5's import repeats seem to be picking up slightly. Xtra Factor held up well against SuBo too.

A new Guardian article below about X Factor advertising. Yeo Valley have almost single handedly paid Simon Cowell this year by spending their entire £5m advertising budget on the show.

because all week the tabloids are going to be talking Xfactor.

They would have been anyway though. The tabloids manage to drag out 7 days worth of coverage out of a show that is only on air for 2 nights a week. :yawn:

At least they'll have something a bit meatier to write about for a few days. Until the whole thing blows over and they can return to Wagner being a sex pest (allegedly) or Katie a backstage diva or something.
