Brilliant all round last night really. I suggested the peak for XF might be something absurd, and it appears I was right. Given the lead-in, IAC could hardly have failed to top 10m.

I have to say though - BBC One had a great night too. I honestly don't know if there's another show on TV which could take 6m+ against those XF results. Really - I reckon EastEnders would be down sub-6m in that slot. It's astonishing.

Also, fantastic to see Garrow's Law hitting a great rating - well up on last years series. The last episode in 2009 did get a bounce, as I recall, from IAC whereas it had been down in the 4m region opposite Doc Martin. It must have appealed nicely yesterday to a portion of the Downton Abbey drama audience that fled from watching IAC.

Less so when you take into context the absurdly high numbers of viewers watching TV on Sunday nights at the moment. Whether it's the time of year, belt-tightening ahead of Christmas/spending cuts etc, people just aren't going out on Sunday nights. Both TXF and AR are benefitting from this and getting inflated figures simply because people are sat at home.

Got to hand it to Sky (unfortunately)- that rating for An Idiot Abroad is terrific.

Is that because it wasn't available for the full week?

Will be season-high numbers for SCD, New Tricks, Apprentice and Countryfile, also Merlin, once BBC1HD viewing is added in, assuming we ever get the figures...

God, this is so confusing.

If an article quotes separate figures for ITV1 and ITV1HD, but only gives one figure for BBC1, is it safe to assume the BBC1 figure is for the SD channel only? Seems reasonable to assume that.

It is not reasonable to assume that because the BBC's head of HD Danielle Nagler, a reputable source, has confirmed that HD is being included automatically in BBC One's ratings.

This means that ITV is the only broadcaster that doesn't do this as standard for whole channel HD simulcasts. ITV is a special case in keeping them separate, it is NOT the norm.

OK. Do you have a link, so I can judge for myself?

So when MediaGuardian, for example, says: "All ratings are Barb overnight figures, including live and same day timeshifted (recorded) viewing, but excluding on demand, HD, +1 or other – unless otherwise stated" (emphasis added)

...and the ratings for BBC1 quoted in their piece make no mention of HD, but are identical to the supposedly HD inclusive figures posted on this thread, we have to assume MediaGuardian are wrong?

if a channel that normally releases a top 10 isn't showing one, then it's probably they haven't provided logs for full week. This should be rectified by the 6 week amendments, but it isn't 100% definite that channel will do that

That caption is part of a template they have been using for months. It's old - and yes, currently wrong - because BBC One, Channel 4 and Channel 5's ratings automatically include HD as standard.

Fellow poster D.M.N. had confirmation from Danielle Nagler so he'll be able to confirm this later. I couldn't find any direct confirmation myself, but I trust that this is correct, particularly as BBC One HD is not being reported separately on www.barb.co.uk.

Indeed. The figures for the number of homes are as at 31 December 2009 even though the figures for 30 June 2010 have now been announced.

It wouldn't take anyone more than 5 minutes to correct this but nobody is alert enough to spot this.

More people staying at home partly because of the weather, partly because of belt-tightening all round. This will be reflected in ITV's quarterly results on Wednesday with advertising revenue up according to reports.

Be honest everyone. How many of us predicted that moving Countryfile to a peak time slot would bring an audience of 7.55 million? In its previous lunch time slot, even though I am a farmer, I watched only the last 10 minutes for the week's weather forecast. I think the 'Adam's farm' section is a big attraction - and also a good bit of PR for the farming industry.

So really, any increase in TXF's ratings this year - and the resiliance of AR too - is "by default" viewing (to coin a phrase much-used by the thread's resident ITVistas) due to people having no cash left to spend by Sunday night and no inclination to leave the house anyway.

I don't know about you but where I live there isn't much to do on a cold Sunday night apart from watch TV (and of course TXF is so good most viewers are transfixed by it and can't get out of their chairs in any case).I'm simply reporting what ITV are saying.

So three of the eight showings made the top tens and add up to 910,000.

As it was Anytime on too, it must have easily passed the 1m mark in total.

I would guess a lot of people see the performances etc online/PVR etc then feel they "have" to see the result fully live.

I rarely watch the performance show live, but always watch the results (at least the actual elimination) fully live, to know when the rest of the country does.

Same with anything, people will either dip in and out or watch at their leisure, but for the results or a finale people will watch live.

Some quite sensational ratings yesterday, over 7 million peak for the F1?! Surprising considering there wasn't a Brit realistically in the title race.

Of course, 7 million seems small when I see X Factor had a peak of nearly 18 million. Blimey. Phenomenal ratings, really. Great for I'm a Celebrity as well.

Not really surprised by XF's continued increase, especially after last weeks boost-and the first 15 mins was always going to pull the show down.

Huge, huge figure for IAC though...the post Sunday XF slot really is on fire atm with Doc Martin, SuBo, Downton and IAC all benefiting. That said IAC is considerably up on last year, which is very impressive considering the lacklustre contestants and lack of effort in the first show (imo). Will be very interesting to see how it holds up this week. Personally there's something missing and things need to be changed to revamp it a bit. But for a very old show to get its highest premiere audience, I doubt anyone will be complaining at ITV HQ.

It seems the smaller terrestrials were squeezed out for the most part with Garrows Law making an impressive return, complimenting ITV's scheduling and SCD did superb against the first 15 mins of XF.
