Yesterday's Mirror said that ITV2 didn't pay the cast of The Only Way Is Essex a penny! (Yes, they really ARE that thick).
They have now naturally demanded payment for a second series and Christmas special. Perhaps this is ITV2's way of keeping them quiet.

Cheshire is planned I believe, though Lime Pictures have already done a series for MTV based around Alderly Edge.

P.S. Hollyoaks sneaked in a reference to the Royal Wedding in tonight's episode - did EastEnders manage it on Tuesday?

Please please not Cheshire. We've already had Living on the Edge (the Alderley Edge one, about 10 minutes away from me). It'd be cringeworthy.

No.

BTW, EastEnders clashes with Emmerdale, the latter having a head start. Expect EastEnders under 7m, possibly nearer 6m.

I don't see it a problem. I remember in 1999 Who Wants to be a Millionaire? had 4 X 30 minute Christmas specials airing on Christmas Eve and Day and they even had a 60 minute documentary. All this was back when they did stripped series (12 consecutive days).

As long they do this for Christmas and about 3/4 series throughout the year, it should be fine. I wonder if they'll do a celebrity special in March for Comic Relief since the channel haven't done anything for them since the first Celebrity BB in 2001.

I cannot see the show airing between Christmas and New Year, therefore I'm guessing it will be shown between Monday 20th and Thursday 23rd December.

Yet another person is entering I'm a Celebrity tomorrow, bringing the total to 14 people - the highest ever. Looking at the timings of the 90 minute shows (or a day where a show is equivalent to 90 minutes in the case of last Thursday; and excluding this Sunday where its a live Bushtucker Trial), and providing one goes per day, I calculate there being 6 people for the final on Saturday 4th December.

There must be some double eliminations, because there is no way that can happen. ITV's schedule is quite frankly stupid for the final, and an own goal. It's now 100% confirmed Saturday:

Quote:
“I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! (Game Show)
ITV1 Central
Saturday, December 4th, 2010
9:25pm to 10:25pm (Other show times...)

Ant and Dec present the final of the jungle challenge. The celebrities have survived the Bushtucker Trials, jungle life and their fellow contestants, but who will win the ultimate prize as the viewers vote for this year's King or Queen of the Jungle?
Stereo, Last In Series, Widescreen, Subtitles”

An hour, dare I say it, just seems too short for the final show if you ask me. The Nation's Favourite Abba Song should have been held back until Christmas, really.

Why should having the football on after it mean the show should dip? Are you saying it wouldn't have been higher last night had ITV not decided to put the show up against EE on Tuesday.

IMO Emmerdale is rating ok. No more no less. The very fact a massively anticipated story reveal which aired in an hour long special recently could only muster normal ratings of 7.5m suggests it's not as on fire as people think. All soaps have benefited this year and now the ratings are rising again because of the time of year. Emmerdale is not as special a case as we are often led to believe here.

Do you know what the average rating for Emmerdale is?

The reason why Emmerdale rates lower when football follows is because the show starts dead on time, if not early and finishes 5 or 6 minutes before time when the entire audience then switches off.

ITV's gamble of picking their FA Cup 2nd Round game and hoping for the grudge game of AFC Wimbledon vs MK Dons (who moved to Milton Keynes from Wimbledon) didn't pay off.
Tuesday - Stevenage beat MK Dons on penalties.
Result tonight: Ebbsfleet 2 AFC Wimbledon 3 AET (Wimbledon equalised in the 4th minute of injury time, and won in injury time in extra time!).

So, live for your delectation a week next Saturday at 12.50pm, LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on ITV1, it's the big one...

DS tapechecks the ratings so that shouldn't be a problem but it's ITV's fault if it does cause a problem for not running to schedule.

I know Emmerdale has been rating higher than 6.8m viewers recently put it that way. 7.1m if we want to include every last viewer and be pedantic.

Thats pretty strong considering ITV have been running 2 hour dramas and events against it to good effect.

The 8pm hour is poor for BBC One though. Those shows just don't suit the slot - by 8pm, it feels like there should be something more substantative being offered. There's nothing inherently wrong with the programmes, but they ought to be either the 7pm hour, coupled with TOS, or on BBC Two.

Football did OK for ITV, though nothing more. C5 had an unusually good night, particularly pre-watershed where you don't usually expect to see it. And it's surely a bit grim for Channel 4 to see Grand Designs at 2.1m, no? Mind you, everything seems a bit grim ratings-wise when it comes to that channel at the moment.”

I quite agree-strange that both shows would probably get a good 4 million plus against the soaps where they should be scheduled.

Apprentice is doing well really against a curious mixture of opposition and a poor lead in as well. Last night had one of the greatest ever tv lines-"I must reign in my extreme masculinity" -has to be seen to be fully appreciated.

Perrin ended tonight with a final scene which begged for another series that Im assuming will not happen. If they had:

-not linked it to Perrin
-made it a proper comedy drama
-got rid of the dafter characters

they would have had a potential original hit-Martin Clunes and Fay Ripley make a good tv couple and perhaps rather wasted trying to remake something iconic.

Three cheers for Prince William and Kate Middleton who have performed a modern miracle in knocking the X Factor off the front pages of the tabloids-only that, a moon landing or a nuclear holocaust could achieve the same feat.

If we want to use the CORRECT rating that's there in front of you.

As Andy says Emmerdale normally finishes early on a Wednesday (not sure if it was the case last night, because I didn't watch it live and the football didn't start till 8, so wouldn't needed to have started as early)..but DS will clarify that when they publish their ratings report.

And I definitely wasn't for the idea of Emmerdale clashing with EE on Tuesday, because it does harm the show..but once in a while won't pose too much of a problem. And I doubt it would have been much above 7.1m if it wasn't for the clash on Tuesday, because last Wednesdays episode managed 7.69m (tapechecked) and that was followed by a Corrie special which managed over 7m itself. The show will always do better with another soap following it, because the soap viewers compliment each other.

And as you say that I 'hype' the show up and think I'm a huge fan, even I didn't know the Wednesday hour long was a climax to a big storyline until 1 day before. ITV stupidly didn't release a single spoiler or advert. Saying that 7.5m was pretty good-what were you expecting?

Remember this is a show which only a couple of weeks ago was 0.3m away from beating Corrie-and you say the ratings are 'just ok'. And earlier in the year managed its highest ratings since 2006/7 (Roscoe probably has the exact episode)-something Corrie didn't manage even with all soap ratings up.

Jason Manford has resigned from The One Show according to some unconfirmed reports due to some new stories in the papers about what he's been getting up to on Twitter...

I wonder who'll replace him on The One Show and how the press coverage will affect TOS's ratings in the next few days?

Edit: The BBC has now confirmed he's left The One Show.

No big loss. He never seemed the right person. I think Matt Baker is a shoe-in now.

The One Show is a fated show it seems-though the problems it has are in themselves a reason to tune in I guess.
If true, any list of replacement odds are bound to include Adrian Chiles at 1500/1

I totally agree with everything you are saying Zoe. Emmerdale has had it's best year since around 2006/7. In January the murder episode drew almost 10m, a figure I never thought we'd see from Emmerdale ever again, but they did it. The quality of the show has improved massively and it is up year-on-year by a rather large margin. As for the exact episode Zoe, I've just had a quick look and if i'm right, the 9.96m Emmerdale achieved in January this year is the highest rated episode since 28th November 2005 when the show averaged 10.34m (the figures I'm quoting are officials and not overnights). Just shows what a remarkable achievement that episode was.

Jason Manford was never the right person for the show, a young edgy comedian hosting such a cosy very-PC BBC show.

Matt Baker will probably continue as permanent host, can you imagine any tabloid headlines about him?! The worst he's probably done is stealing a penny sweet from a newsagents 20 years ago.

Oh god what a mess! Sounds like he walked out today after hearing he's going to be front page news again. A shame as he's been doing well. Matt Baker will presumably get the gig but really this is a pig of a situation. I wonder if he's actually resigned or if he's been sacked?

The BBC has now confirmed he's left The One Show.

Also a 'BBC source' has apparently told a journalist that he walked before he was pushed. So they probably wanted to get rid of him anyway.

As others have said, Matt Baker looks like the odds-on favourite to replace him but with his Strictly commitments at the moment, maybe he won't be able to start full time until the New Year.

I like Jason but I think the tabloid attention was probably getting to him which is a shame but I'm sure he'll be fine as he's a successful standup and he's got other gigs like 8 Out of 10 Cats. Matt Baker is a shoe in and he's always come off well on TV but I wonder if he'll have to quit Countryfile or could they schedule it so he can do both?

He and Konnie Huq have had successful post Blue Peter career, is Simon Thomas doing television, I know Liz is now a full time mum and Katy Hill does the odd bit of telly work.

I guess the BBC are keeping One Show preseneters on a tight leash these days, they dont need any more bad press.

Nope, Princess Productions. They seem to be going for more formatted entertainment (Got To Dance, Must Be The Music) since the Shine takeover.
