Keith Richards hands
Flying Dagger
25-10-2010
I've just watched this interview http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11615111 and noticed how deformed Keith's hands are. The top knuckle on each finger seems incredibly swollen. Has anyone else noticed this, is it Arthritis or 50 years of playing guitar? Does it affect his playlng?

Maybe I should have put this in G.D.?

If it's the top knuckles, then that would be osteoarthritis (rather than rheumatoid arthrtis, which would affect the 2nd and 3rd knuckles). Osteoarthritis is due to wear and tear and so, in Keith's case, it has probably indeed been caused by his half-century of guitar playing. He may find his fingers and joints are a little stiffer than they used to be, but it probably wouldn't affect his playing if he made a few simple adjustments and warmed up sufficiently to 'get going' before gigs.
