WDF

Just confirmed it on twitter. Why would she want to change that little gem?!

Knowing Alexandra Burke, it'll have an extra segment of rap

But seriously, it doesn't need altering with. Unless it's something minor like a new verse or something.

She probably wants to release it but thinks it won't be successful without a rap.

It is such a beautiful song. However, a 're-work' could be different notes, music etc. I hope rap isn't in it..it'd be like having rap in the middle of a Mariah ballad or something.

Interesting that she is only getting around to releasing this now considering her album has been available for over a year. Still, I am glad to see it finally being released.

It's silly; a performance on The X Factor, along with the strength of the song itself, will bump it into the top 10 anyway.

The song was made to be performed on X Factor with that big key change towards the end.

The only thing I could imagine them doing is making it more like a Christmas song..

I just listened to it and I have to say her belting sounds awfully strained.

The rawness of her vocals are what makes the song. I hope they don't re-record it taking away the raspiness.

I think that. Just listening to it gives me a sore throat.

I don't think strained belts make it sound good at all, it makes it sound painful in a physical way, not emotional.
It just doesn't sound healthy and promoting the song with that vocal is only going to do bad things for her.

I think this is what the re-vamp could be. Listening to it, I see what you mean...however I do think it still sounds good. I have a funny feeling Alexandra is re-recording the vocals.

If she would just sing it in her range I think it could be a beautiful song, sometimes a vocal is enough to make a song amazing.

It's annoying when singers do vocal acrobatics they're not capable of. Christina's sheer volume of belting is taking it's toll and Mariah's constant abuse of the whistle register is the reason she's lost half of her power and range.

She's not straining to hit the notes - she hits higher notes than these elsewhere on the album with ease. Alex herself has said that the song is extremely personal to her and that she got emotional recording it. She has a natural raspy tone, like Toni Braxton and Bonnie Tyler, and that becomes more pronounced when she is emotional. Her performance of Un-Break My Heart on the x-factor is another example of this.

They will completely strip the song of it's emotional punch if they re-record her vocals.

She's performed it well live several times.

Love this. She's improved so much since then, so can't wait for the live performances:

It might sound good, but that doesn't make it healthy.

I'm quite interested to hear them, what tracks does she go for the high notes on? If they're not high notes produced as a result of belting it's not the same.

But she didn't write it? And it couldn't be related to an event in her life because it was written for her. We all have the odd song that's personal to us, Pixie Lott - Cry Me Out is personal for me because of an event in my life.
And anyway, a strained belt isn't the result of feeling emotional, if you want an emotional attempt at singing go watch Mariah Carey's performance of I'll Be There at Michael Jacksons memorial.

Once again, I think it's the result of belting out of her range. Alex doesn't have a natural raspy tone, she has a naturally deep voice and if she sticks to the lower registers she sounds incredible, she can produce low notes in her chest voice with sheer power and that's what I like about her, but if she starts trying to pull out a bunch of notes she can't handle then it just becomes annoying.

Alex took her diary into the recording studio and RedOne and others used it to pen some tracks. 'Dumb' is about one of her ex-boyfriends, and 'the Silence' is about her aunties boyfriend who would give her the silent treatment when they had trouble in their relationship. She lived with her aunt for a while and is close to her, which is why she finds the song so emotional. She said in an interview when the album was released that she kept breaking down during the recording of it, and when she performed it live early on she told the audience that they would probably be the last people to hear it live because she found it too emotional to sing.

She kinda did. She said that this song was written from a page in her diary about a relationship. She may not have written it, but the content and subject of the song are obviously very personal to her.

She isn't out of her range, as the demo version of this song is actually in a higher key, and she belts with ease there as well. I think the the raspy tone adds to the emotion of the song, and is a style very few artists nowadays can pull off easily.

If you want high notes look for Nothing But The Girl, You Broke My Heart, Gotta Go, Overcome. Or outside her album look for Man For Me, Perfect and Before The Rain...

I adore The Silence but i was hoping for a new track, especially if it's gonna attract people to the re-release. But then she could always do another new song afterwards because The Silence is suitable for the winter holiday. I hope the new version is good.

I was going to mention You Broke My Heart. Also, she belts higher in the album version of All Night Long sans Pitbull.

I think that background note in YBMH is the highest on the album, Eb5 iirc. And I forgot that amazing belt in ANL...

The only thing that emotional part says to me is that the song would have taken ages to record because she kept having mini breakdowns. In the end, it's a song and the record label want to make money, it's only the artist that really cares about emotion in the song, the record label is all about what it sounds like, and if it doesn't sound 100% vocally because of her crying through her voice they'll just reject it and tell her to do it again.
It's nice when an artists emotions are conveyed through the performance of the song, but I seriously don't hear it, just strained vocals.

I'm not hating on Alex, I just think she doesn't sound "well" on that track. Hopefully the revamped version makes her sound more comfortable.

Oh, and fair enough about the writing part, I didn't know it was penned about an event in her life.

I don't think this will count as a new song

She said the re-release will include two top ten hits (All Night Long (feat. Pitbull) and Broken Heels, i would imagine)

three number ones (Hallelujah, Bad Boys and Start Without You)

and 3 new tracks.
