I've just listened to You Broke My Heart, but those high notes are not belted so they don't sound strained like the ones in The Silence. What I will note on is that they sound very thin, hoarse and weak.
I don't think high notes are Alex's thing. It's not a bad thing, she doesn't need to have a big range when she's got such an ample and warm lower chest voice.

I hope she records it using the same vocals as when she performed on POG.

I downloaded that performance and deleted the original because her voice sounds alot better live than the studio version. But I love the song, and I'm glad she's finally releasing it.

A few months ago, fans were worried that radio won't latch onto it, but who cares now.

I don't think the point of this release is really another top 10 hit. I think she'll perform it on the x-factor the same week the re-release is out as a way to promote that.

Yeah, no straining because she lowered the key. This is just proof that she's not capable of belting high notes if she changes the key of the song when she performs it live.

It's really easy to see why Charlotte Church bigged up Alex as one of the best singers she'd ever heard, on the basis of performances like this. Stunning. If she replicates something similar on the X-Factor, on the strength of the guest performances we've seen so far on X-Factor, she may give the best vocal by a distance. About time for the ballad to make a comeback this year, and Alex is the right woman for the job, imho.

And to be honest, Alex seems like she improves all the time, so she may even go beyond the POG performance. I'll be interested to see the video, and how the X-Factor performance is staged.

Well people often record things in the studio which they have no intention of performing live. Anyhow she did belt F5s on the X-factor with relative ease. I think it all comes down to what people like. Some say that Xtina sings out of her range and shouts but I personally don't mind it, some would say Mariah is just screaming when she goes to the top of her belting range and I've heard people say Leona is shrill and thin at the top end of her belting. But they all have plenty of fans that enjoy what they do. Personally I like the rasp that Alex has when she goes for the top end of her belting, but I also like her tone and really enjoy when she does songs like They don't know and when she did you are so beautiful which had no big notes in them just Alex singing. I'd probably say for me that her tone is the best feature of her voice but I also like the fact that she can belt it out too.

If she replicates this performance on the X=factor she will bring the house down. Even her performances whilst she was a contestant listen (solo) and halleujah are some of the best vocal performances I've seen on the show. On that basis she can definitley give one of the best vocal performances by any guest so far.

If it's the video filmed for TS in May, I'm betting it's very basic. Maybe like the Hallelujah video. Alex stood there ni the dark; surrounded by candles etc.

The highest belt on the album is in Nothing But the Girl and is an F#5.

She does sound raspy on it, and I hope she's re-recorded the vocals. Her recent performance of it at G-A-Y was fantastic and didn't sound raspy at all. I never liked the Paul O'Grady performance, personally, and find her G-A-Y performance to be the best yet.

I think it will be the instrumental rather than the vocals that will be reworked.

I don't mind rasp, Mariah Carey's belting is scratchy above E flat, but I think it sounds quite good.

So, repeating myself, I don't mind raspiness but I think Alex's sounds a bit more unhealthy than, say, Mariah's.
Christina is another case though. I'm one of the people who find her shouting rather annoying, but one of the people who find Mariah's "screeching" mesmorising.

From recent performances her voice is much stronger now and she has better control, so whatever they do with the recorded version the live performances should be good.

Ohh Mariah's wrasp on we belong together is so emotional she sings/screams that last chorus like she really means it. I love Mariah's screams, screething or whatever people call it. She gives me goosebumps. I love Mariah's raspy voice especially between 1997-2000. Her voice wasn't even in good condition then but it sounded so sublime.

Completely agree. That was the highest she's ever belted We Belong Together, it's even higher than the studio version. Most people critisized her for loosing it at the end of the note but it almost makes it sound like she's crying; this is a performance that I would say has emotion.

She sounded so sharp in 1997 - 2000, but nothing beats her 1996 stuff. Ever see the performance of Hero at the Tokyo Dome? Wow.

i LOVE this song, why she didn't release it before i don't know. Much better than the dire broken heels.

She NEEDS to change it though.

The fact is, the song is really old now. Everybody already knows it, and I can't see it going top 10 unless there's a new version which she promotes, which will get the people who already own the original version (through the album of through download), to consider buying the new version.

David Guetta did the same thing, and got his 5th single from his album to #1, because he made a new version of the song.
