Folks, its not called "Vocalist of the year". Its called the X-Factor. This means if you have a good voice but have no personality, or are dull and boring, you will not win.
Hence, TreyC in the bottom two. Wagner not in the bottom two. Get it now ? |

While I'm sure that people will agree with you, some of us still (blindly) appreciate X-Factor as a singing competition, as I know I look forward to hearing good vocal performances. Thus, I personally will always be in favour of the vocalists and I think Treyc is one of the best in this season. People always moan that Leona has no personality, but given her success, her voice got her far so I don't see why I have to suddenly jump ship and appreciate the gimmicky acts because if they are lacking a good set of pipes then they just don't do it for me unfortunately.

Oh. Is that why Leona Lewis won and became a global star? Because of her sparkling personality?

TreyC has technical ability, but doesn't project any emotion. |

I have to say I liked her performance, but then I am a led zep fan.....but I knew after she sang it...very well in my humble opinion...that she would be in trouble, so was not surprised to see her bottom two.....I feel through song choice more than anything else...

I love Treyc's voice but I tend to agree her performances are usually pitch and note perfect but there's something missing. Some would say that's personality or feeling but I think it's her inexperience at performing in front of such big audiences. She doesn't know quite how to convey that emotion across and it shows as viewers obviously haven't connected with her.

Joe was boring, he won.
Steve was duller than dishwater (Sharons words if i remember rightly) and boring, he won. Alexandra was bland and unoriginal, she won. Shayne was pretty dull as well, he won. Leona was quiet as a mouse and had little personality, she won. I think you can make a case for some early exits of average vocalists, but when it comes to winning, personality will only take you so far. |

Her voice can sound very harsh at times. I'm not sure if I really like it or not.

None of the winners so far have been exciting except for Alexandra. Personally I find TreyC exciting and fun to watch, and can't understand why people find her dull and boring.
Look at Leona and Joe Plagued by complaints that they had their personalities surgically removed.

Hence, TreyC in the bottom two. Wagner not in the bottom two. Get it now ? re: Leona comparisons, like her or hate her, Leona can, vocally, go toe to toe with anyone (except the incomparable Eva Cassidy - but that's a whole other lament). Her vocal talent is such that it actually compensates for what seems to be a yawning charisma vacuum (and I'm a fan - and a realist, mind). Therefore, Leona is the exception. Not the rule. Tracy (I refuse to get on board with that totally contrived spelling) is a perfectly capable singer but nothing about her is even remotely engaging. IMO. And I don't even dislike her - she just leaves me completely ambivalent. Which, is way worse than polarizing opinion like a few of the others seem to be able to do. |

I'd like her to try and sing something softer and quieter, just to see what it's like. I am not sure I can fit her into any niche as yet, I feel she has more exploring of different styles to do to see what fits.
Also, the way she is styled so far I haven't liked. This weeks outfit was a bit all over the place to me, and looked messy from the shoulders up. She's a pretty girl and I'd like them to enhance that a bit more. A bit like John though, she's not getting media coverage like the others, and seems too nice. Although I dont see that as a failing at all, as I much prefer it, it's not doing her any favours when it comes to being noticed by the crowd. |

I'm not fond of TreyC's voice which is why so far she has had no votes from me. Its all subjective - I would imagine she ended up in the bottom two because not enough people were moved to get off their bums and vote for her!
As for personality, she's just normal - a bit like John, which is one of the reason he went as well I would think. She doesnt have a "gimmick" she's not a diva always in the papers, and she's not a novelty act. Also her vocal ability whilst fantastic, is actually a bit generic - and she's a woman so she won't get the "I fancy him" votes either. Personally I like Rebecca's tone, and whilst I would always know its Rebecca if I could hear her but not see her, with TreyC she does sound like she could be anyone if you close your eyes. Her problem is being a bit middle of the road. |

Oh quite. Cher is the saviour of the British Music industry in my opinion. I haven't seen such artisitic creativity since the days of Kate Bush.
FWIW 'the days of Kate Bush' also produced Blondie, Siouxie and the Banshees, Lene Lovich, Hazel O'Connor. The Slits and Girlschool amongst other more left-field artists. Debbie Harry (Blondie) had the first rap hit. if you are talking real creativity, you also need to consider Carole King, Bjork, Enya and a whole host of others. Ms Bush was pretty different. Remember Pamela on 'Not the nine o'clock news' doing 'leotard'? |
