Most reality shows have a person of the moment and quickly move on to the next show when one finishes.

Matt seems to have be flavour of the moment, but would he too be forgotten abut by a lot of his voters as the next year moves on.

You could apply this to whoever wins I suppose but it does seem to be the pattern generally

I agree. Most people don't watch these shows thinking about who they might buy albums from. It's just favourites within the confines of the show.

I think Cher is a good example of this. She is unique and different - but only within the confines of The X Factor. We haven't had someone like her on the show before, even though artist in her style/genre are ten to the penny in the music world. But no-ones thinking about the music world when watching X Factor. It's more like watching a sitcom, with the only people who matter being the characters who are in the show.

It's an entertainment show, viewers will switch over after the final and onto the next thing (?BB, Celebrity, BGT etc.).

Cher is not unique and different btw... everything she has done has been a cover aside from adding 'ring-a-ding' to songs

For me it is pure reality but I would never vote for someone if I could not see myself buying the music. My problem with the show is I want credible artists but then X factor is not the show to go on if you want to be taken as credible. People moan about the gimmick acts when it is a gimmick show. I take it for what it is a middle of the road, manipulating reality TV. I know Leonna has done well but I also believe she did not walk into the audition without a little push from syco.

So true.

After the finale show ends, the chain is pulled, and they are flushed out to sea. Ready to chew up some new hopefuls for next year.

I just think sometimes SyCo get "lazy". It's as though they expect that the millions who vote for X Factor contestants are going to support them commercially once the show is over and it doesn't work like that

Winners, especially the guys, need be out there performing as much as they can building and sustaining a fan base. Joe should have had a new single out to coincide with the tour and another a few weeks afterwards. Because this more uptempo pop path for Joe is something of a 'risk', in that he didn't win performing these type of songs, while for most voters once the show is over that's it - fait accompli!

I, of course, make the conscious decision that when I'm voting for a contestant (and all three I voted for in their first live shows and beyond for the same reason - Shayne, Leona and Joe - went on to win) I'll support them, commercially, from thereon, at least, in terms of buying their music. Don't see any point in me voting otherwise. I wish there were more of that mindset though I can understand the lack of money can prevent that, especially, if there are so many out there who you like releasing albums, more or less, at the same time. Right now, as the album chart goes, I Kings of Leon (bought last week), Joe (bought this week) and Michael Buble (who I'll buy next week)

i think it speaks volumes that the biggest financial success of all Sycos shows has been Susan Boyle, who has earned millions for them both on the sympathy vote. I have nothing against Susan personally, but there are better singers out there, but unfortunately they don't have the story. Syco can't buy that sort of publicity.

If Susan had been something of a dolly-bird (for want of better words), living a charmed life, I doubt she'd have have been propelled into the stratosphere. But with Susan comes a fairly compelling life story

For me, Matt is up there with Leona in that I've liked them from very early on and watched them get better and better. I'd buy his music in a heartbeat. His popularity is becoming like what Leona's was in her year. Once in a while, you get someone like that who steps out from the crowd and captures your attention - and it continues well past the X Factor. He won't be another Steve Brookstein, that's for sure.

That's precisely how I felt with Shayne, Leona and Joe. I just knew Shayne would win it at his first audition, and I got the same feeling with Leona and Joe, from the first live show. They, IMO, "worked" to win it by raising their game

I do have a litmus, any of them, good or not, who strike me as being primarily driven by the "fame" or the "celebrity" are just 'dead on arrival', which is why I'm cold on, for example, Olly Murs and Katie Waissel

I'm not in any one's camp this year but I'd guess I'm more likely to support both Rebecca or Matt, comercially (maybe even Mary). I like them as people and that's important
