'Dennis Tanner 1951'
The longest surving piece of vandalism in soap (on the window ledge outside Eileen Grimshaw's house)

EILEEN : 'Oh so you're Dennis Tanner are you ?
By rights I should be getting you to cover that up !' DENNIS : 'I can't believe that's still 'ere and everything else 'as changed around it' |

Is it really the same set from the 60s? Moved piece by piece in the 80s?

I was thinking about this - and indeed it';; no doubt appear in his opening re-appearance!
I think it was put there mid 80's for Elsie's departure (although supposed to have been there since 1951), for her to look at, and thankfully, it was never removed - a kind of tribute to the Tanner's and their home. Also got me wondering how that'll stand when the set gets re-built I hope they don't ruin the character of Dennis - some ghosts are best left laid |

Eileen isn't a Tanner, no. Elsie Tanner's maiden name was Grimshaw, same as Eileen, but there has so far been nothing to suggest this is anything but coincidence. |

Ooh well that could be the storyline for his appearance then - hes been tracing his family tree and thinks they may be distantly related.

LOL no he is nowhere near that old! He's about the same age as Ken - mid 70s.

Nice they've kept it for so long. I love how Corrie remember their history, the red phone in Eileen's hall being another nod to the past I can think of.

except of course that the cobbles all moved from horizontal to vertical The first actual "bricks and mortar" outdoor set was used from 1968-1982, and the viaduct was a real one which became the Tour Departures area of the old Granada Studios Tour, on the New York style street. That viaduct still stands today, as part of the Granada backlot and the arches continue into Salford. The old outdoor set had the diagonally positioned cobbles, which were suddenly straightened when they moved to the current outdoor set, complete with the fake viaduct arches, in 1982. Another addition was the gap between the Rovers Return Inn, and No 1 Coronation Street ... as it looked as though the pub toilets were sharing space with the Barlows (previously Albert Tatlock's) living room and parlour! |
