Check out T-Mobile's deals. The prices are broadly similar to other networks, but they give you a free booster on top, making them slightly better VFM.

T-Mobile only do two year contracts I believe.

I am wondering whether to buy a handset direct from Apple and then getting a SIM only deal from Orange. Does anybody know how straight forward that is?

I'm planning on doing the same in the next few days but with a £15 micro sim only rolling contract on 3. I believe that Apple sell the handset unlocked so any micro sim *should* work fine in there.
