Guide+ problem with DMR780
RTD
26-10-2010
I have had this unit for about 2 months with no problems until Monday (yesterday). I look ahead for a week to see if there is anything for me to record. On Monday the guide+ had not updated past Sunday 31st October. i.e. no programs for 1st November were displayed. Today it was still the same.

I rang Panasonic technical support and spoke with someone on the helpline who suggested I do a re-scan of the channels (which I had already done) and then a factory restore.

I did the factory restore and found only todays programmes on guide+. An hour later when checking the days had been updated but (again) only up to Sunday 31st.

I rang Panasonic again and this time spoke with another person who told me that because it was a dual HD tuner then it needed a very powerful signal for the guide+ to work. I told him it had been working for the last 2 months OK and the signal level and quality on all channels was 10. He insisted that I get the external aerial checked as I had told him that it was over 4 years old. He said that any aerials over that age should be checked.

I could not believe what he was telling me and the only other thing he could offer me was the telephone number for their repair agency.

I had gone into the settings to check signal strength on each channel and rescanned for programmes, while I was talking to the support guy, when I subsequently checked the guide+ it had then updated, so Monday and Tuesday 1st and 2nd November programmes were then showing???

The question I have is, has anyone else had this type of problem?

Yes, I'm on the mendip transmitter and on 2 of my units the epg stops on Sunday, this must be a problem with the company that transmits the epg. Hopefully not going the same way as the 4tv 14 day epg went a couple of months ago.

I'm certain it is a bug in the software on this machine.

According to the guideplus info the programme details were updated this morning at 3.00am.

When I viewed the programme listings, again it only went to Sunday midnight, despite having reported an update.

I was in portrait view in guideplus, as I tend to only record from 2 channels and I prefer to see all programmes on the screen for each channel rather than scroll across. When I switched to landscape view it displayed the Monday programmes.

If I then switched back to portrait view I saw all the Monday programmes, scrolling down to Monday midnight again it stopped displaying Tuesday's programmes. Switch to landscape view and Tuesday's programmes were visible.

I think I'll try and tell the Panasonic helpline this - I wonder if they'll believe me??

We don't do Panasonic, but Guide+ has been nothing but trouble ever since it started - it's a disaster that Panasonic don't give you the option to use the proper Freeview EPG instead (as other manufacturers do).

My advice would be to exchange it for something that uses the Freeview EPG, which is FAR more reliable (and no adverts).

Nigel

thanks for your reply, but I think Panasonic are the only ones who make/manufacture a blu-ray recorder?? - which was what I wanted.

I`ve got the same problem I just put I just put it down to the clocks having to go back one hour on Sunday
I don`t think it is anything wrong with the recorder as my Panasonic television guide is the same when set to Freeview but if I switch to Freesat the guide is ok perhaps it is something to do with BBC HD changing on the 3rd of November

You're a bit stuffed then

I would try complaining to Panasonic about their absurd decision to not support the default Freeview EPG - hopefully if enough people complain they will change back to supporting it.

Just double checked on what RTD wrote regarding changing the epg view, with landscape just till sunday, with portrait full 8 day epg, must be a software glitch, I'll speak to my panasonic shop tomorrow and get them to contact panasonic, may be of some use.

Panasonic customer services rang me to say they acknowledge the problem and will be trying to fix it. They will keep me updated.

I had my local panasonic shop ring tech services, who found the problem which they said was not a problem but due to memory on the units, and as most people(?) prefered the portrait view they would not be doing anything to fix the bug. How they know most people prefer the portrait view I don't know as I was never asked and I prefer the landscape view. Still atleast they acknowledge the problem.

Looks as though it has been sorted this morning

I had a call today from Panasonic to say that the problem had now "fixed itself" They think that it was an issue with British Summer Time and they hope to sort it out for next Spring when the clocks change again - so no pressure there then

Just as I thought in my earlier post
