Any fans of Roxy Music on here? They have become one of my favourite bands.

Love the quirkiness of them. And whoever thought of including an oboe as part of a rock band is a stroke of genius.

I currently have the first 4 albums on CD from their early career. Had to find out more after liking more and more their quirky debut single 'Virginia Plain'.

Long live Roxy Music.

Never used to like them as i always thought Bryan Ferry was a bit of a poser who loved himself.

But got a copy of the For Your Pleasure album a couple of months ago and am now proud to call myself a fan.

Song For Europe, The Thrill of it All and Mother of Pearl are great songs which i'd never even heard up till two months ago!

I never thought of Roxy Music as a rock act, but then I never really thought of categorising them. Just enjoyed the music.

First album I bought was Flesh and Blood (loved the cover), and was hooked almost immediately. Avalon is absolutely incredible.

Top band, and Brian Ferry's solo album Bete Noir is a cracker as well - the only album I've ever known to use a typewriter for percussion (on Kiss and Tell).

Never could get into their music, because I detested Bryan Ferry then, and even more so these days.

Their first five albums are my favourites, particularly Stranded, which is an almost perfect collection. The scantily clad models on the covers added to the band's unique aura. After their self-imposed break they came back mellower, with Ferry less of a revolutionary character. Even in that phase there are Roxy gems though - Trash, Dance Away and others are all classics.

Listened to it on the way in this morning. Damn was it a solid album. They were always more of an album band than one based around singles though.

True, the singles they did release were big though. Pity the Roxy reunion ended up Bryan solo, it does feature Brian, Phil and Andy but their contribuitons are buried in the mix apparently

Love them. Street Life - 20 Great Hits is one of the best GH albums ever.

Its one of the few covers that is definitely better than the original.

I'm now on a Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry theme, it was Flesh and Blood, followed by Bete Noir on the way into work. In fact I'll probably be alternating between both albums for another week

Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurve Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry!

I was lucky enough to see them at Lovebox festival this year and I'm taking my Mum to the O2 in Feb to see them. She's the reason I'm into them. I grew up with her playing their vinyl and looking at the album covers which I thought were so rude at the time!

Country Life is my favourite, I think.

Oh, and totally agree with their cover of Jealous Guy being better than the original. And this comes from a massive Lennon/Beatles fan.

Has anyone listened to Bryan's latest solo effort yet? I haven't, but it's been getting some great reviews.

I agree.

They did a lot of good stuff in the late 70s/early 80s - the likes of "Love is the Drug".

I like Bryan Ferry - can't stand his obnoxious son though.

Nice to see a thread for Roxy! Country Life & Stranded, IMO are their best (though CL gets missed by the critics). Lots of people have a problem with Ferry (his solo output is hit n miss), but Ferry's always been a control-freak/perfectionist. As someone else said on this thread, 'Streetlife' compilation is a gr8 way to become acquainted with Roxy/Ferry's work.

I've been a Roxy fan since Virginia Plain. (Yes, I'm old ). Absolutely bloody LOVE that band. In one guise or another Ferry has pretty much provided the soundtrack to my life. Roxy were so hugely influential it's actually scary to think what the music of the past 30-odd years would have sounded like had they never existed.

It's strange how Roxy seemed to improve even more when Eddie Jobson replaced Eno, who was a vital part of the band's early phase. I liked the experimental element Eno added, but I find the Eno-less Stranded, Country Life and Siren more complete albums than the first two.
