iPhone 3GS: Idiots guide to unlocking required.
In a nutshell...
I have an iPhone 3GS as an unwanted upgrade which I want to sell. Normally, I'd just take it into a shop and get it unlocked prior to selling it. After paddling around the interweb I'm a little concerned a shop might install some kind of software unlock which'll be removed if/when the software is updated. Cos of this I'd like to unlock/jailbreak it myself so I can do it again if I need to. So, first up, here's the details of the phone:- iPhone 3GS 16gb Software version: 4.0.2 (8A400) Model: MC131B Modem Firmware version: 05:13:04 First question is can this phone BE unlocked and jailbroken yet? I had a quick look on the internet just after I received the phone and it seemed that it couldn't be unlocked yet. Assuming the phone CAN be unlocked, can somebody give me a really simple explanation of how to go about unlocking and jailbreaking it please? I've had a quick look around the interweb and, TBH, there was so much conflicting advice about how to do it that it made my head hurt. |

what network is it on as i believe you need to contact the network provider and they will send out the update to unlock it but you will need to connect to itunes to transfer it to the phone.

So does this mean I can give my mum my iPhone which is on Vodafone. She is on Orange. Would I contact Vodafone to get them to unlock it or Orange?
