Nope. 3 Words and Parachute both went top 10 in other countries too. Read my previous post again...

Yes. Three Words and Parachute may have gone top ten in a few countries but her only really successful song was her debut. And, further to that, her album didn't make much of an impact (which is the important thing).

Australia: 31
Austria: 26
France: 53
Germany: 45
Netherlands: 49
Norway: 18
Switzerland: 52
Belgium: 99 and 96 (they have two charts)
Spain: 64
Greece: 15

Hardly anything to sing about (pardon the pun!). Considering most of those are relatively small music markets (the big ones are USA, Japan, UK, Germany and France - the rest are pretty small markets, especially places like Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary etc... as you mentioned previously).

So, yeah, she's not a massive act outside of the UK and Ireland.

Apparently the album has sold 1million world wide. 3x platinum in the UK and 2x platinum in Ireland. Since platinum in the UK is 300,000, then 900,000 out of that 1 million is in the UK alone meaning only 100,000 were sold outside of the UK. Platinum in Ireland is 15,000, which is 30,000... meaning only 70,000 outside of the "X-Factor zone"

Cheryl Cole CANNOT be compared to superstars such as Britney Spears, there is just no way. Cheryl is known more for her style, personality and lifestyle which therefore somehow manages to sell her music, however her music has no real worth, longevity or stature. ALSO Cheryl is only successful in the UK and Ireland,by no means is she about to conquer the world.

I'm pretty certain she appeared on every international English version of The X Factor or America's Got Talent to promote her song...

Why do so many people seem to idolise Cheryl? The only reason i can think of is her looks which just seems so shallow.
She can't sing, write, dance, act, play an instrument or anything. Just wear expensive outfits and say pointless things in a Geordie accent on a mind-numbingly dull TV show. Is that all it takes.

Actually i will give her some credit, she can dance. She is a trained dancer isn't she? Or has a lot of dancing background

Her dancing is laughable, I was cringing last Sunday watching her medicore dancing.

She isn't a bad dancer at all, but by no means is she a good one. I'm yet to see her pull off something that requires more than 'breakdown music' to make it seem impressive.

The thing with Cheryl is that she hasn't actually done or achieved anything that really implies she could be huge internationally, let alone considered iconic in the future. Her success is so in tandem to her celebrity, and not the strength of the material, that anywhere she tries to break she'll have to build that same level of tabloid fame. The problem with that is that she's so domestic that internationally, I doubt they'll care. She's famous for being in a British girl band and now judging a British tv show, she had a public marriage and divorce with a British football player, she herself is incredibly British with that accent.

Yes, she's had some success in Europe but nothing to write home about. Besides, it's all pretty irrelevant because the US is such a different and difficult market. Doing well here doesn't entitle success there, just look at Robbie Williams, Kylie and the endless parade of superstars who couldn't translate their appeal.

The only reason she'll have success over there is if the X Factor becomes a smash and they take to her. That's not set in stone though, because what if they don't understand her? She'll have to improve and Americanise her material because right now, her stuff is nowhere near strong enough to take on the US. Promise This/FFTL is so brit-pop and as good as they are, they're hardly instant pop classic anthem great. How is she going to compete with Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Britney, Beyonce etc? This is America we're talking about, there's **** all competition here in comparison. They all have better material, stronger images, bigger fanbases, more attention.

If push comes to shove, are American's going to give a shit about Cheryl Cole miming away on stage to a song they probably won't get, with the others around? They don't care Ashley cheated on her, they don't know him. They don't care she is the tabloid appointment nations sweetheart. They don't know or care she had malaria. Without all her celebrity, is her material strong enough to support a career? Doubtful. Especially after listening to her album.

Exactly. Its threads like these that make me hate this forum and the general public for idolising and holding up someone so highly who basically has no talent and is ultimately an attention-whore
