Orange network failing on tuesday evening in Central London
Did anyone else have problems with the orange network at the time of the formula 1 demo in Regent Street?

I've had the odd problem getting a line on a busy Saturday afternoon in Central London on Orange. It's probably not surprising if they had network capacity problems with half a million people crammed in to a very small area.

Are people getting fed up with Orange? They used to be the most popular mobile phone company around, but now it doesn't seem to be the case.
The amount of places I go and get no signal, even on top a hill. Also, has anyone got a new Orange mobile recently, and actually had the offer of free texts at weekends? Nearly two months, and nothing... |

However when an event puts loads more people into an area than normal the more popular network will suffer more than most. Due to capacity problems when they were One2One i belive that T-Mobile have an awful lot of capacity in London (probably excessive) and phones on the two 900 Networks (02 and Vodafone) are able to communicate with more distant masts than the 1800 ones, even in a city center. If Orange were to be able to cover one off events like that they would have hugly excessive capacity levels and would cost more to maintain - rising your bills! If this was to happen for the whole three months prior to christmas then it would be fair to blame orange, but i don't think it's totally justified in this case. |
