Whats everyones opinions on Slipknot, at first i thought they were really crap, but some of their songs seem okay, like 'wait and bleed' and 'left behind'.
Also what does everyone think of 12/14 year olds etc walking around wearing slipknot hoodys?
Are Slipknot the new music craze? even their lastest album made it to number 1!

My sisters got the album and... uuurrrggghhh! You cant make out a word they are saying, they are tuneless, and those masks are really horrible. How anyone can like this is something not even a top psicaiatrist would know! The hoodys are just saying that rock is just as commercialised and imaged based as pop bands like westlife! Basically walking round wearing a hoody with a rock bands name on is no different to having westlife posters pinned over your bedroom.

I think seeing 12/14 year olds walking round in Slipknot hoodies sums it all up really. It's just all a big cash-in off easy targets, for a bunch of half-talented layabouts. I'd even go as far to compare it to wrestling. They both attract the same sort of easily led audiences.

Purely out of interest, what music do you like James? I've read a number of your posts in the music forum and I just can't figure it out!!

Yeah i agree the stupid image of Slipknot lets them down. Why do they insist on wearing those stupid masks everytime they do an interview?I do,however, think some of there music is ok. Their last single 'Left Behind' was very good indeed, and the video to that track was one of the best i've seen in ages.

I have nothing against their music, although I wouldn't buy it, but what annoys me about these bands, but their fans even moreso, is when they bang on about how they listen to the music to be individual and that these bands are about the music, not image, yet Slipknot are as image based as Spice Girls or Hear'say or B*Witched.

Those masks are a joke. They look like idiots.

What the f**k are you on about??? Since when did he say he liked dance music??? I happen to like dance music (house etc) in the midst of all these people (or "sheep") walking around in hoodies. So obviously it is people like me who don't have my own mind! (That's sarcasm in case you couldn't realise!)

something to do with people using an image to sell their music. they want to prove a point that you don't have to be beautiful to sell a single or album. kind of stupid really when people think of those masks when they hear the name Slipknot

Giphip, I hate dance music. It is produced by talentless idiots, well almost talentless anyway. It makes me angry to think that rappers and rock bands take months to write lyrics and good music, and these dance people are making money too. Good to see that dance music is rapidly losing it's popularity at the moment. Slipknot I think are pretty cool, not sure if I'd buy the album, but all of the singles I really like.

And Richard was totally correct, dnace music fans are all sheep, without their own mind. My mate really pisses me off, he ONLY likes dance music, liek most dance music fans. He was listening to my Linkin Park album, and I could tell he was enjoyign it, his feet were tapping etc! But he just couldn't admit he liked it, the best he could do was to say, he just liked some of their songs, and he won't give any other music even a small chance.

And for the record, the type of music I like is: Rock, hard and more chilled out, so everything from Slipknot, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit, through to Stain'd. Big fan of all types of rap music. R&B, I like UK garage, but mostly only stuff on the So Solid record label, and a bt of pop, but only pople like Madonna and Michael Jackson who write their own stuff.

Fair enough points, however it is stupid to make comments like a certain bunch of people have no mind, or are all sheep, or whatever. I think Slipknot and all that lot are a pile of shite myself but it doesn't mean it's a fact.

Everyone has a different opinion on the type of music they like best, so instead of getting involved in pointless debates, just stick to what you like and leave others in peace.

As you can tell I'm just re-iterating a number of other posts in these forums which I'm sure you've already seen but haven't taken any notice of.

Dart: Those masks are a joke. They look like idiots

I have to disagree. The masks are the band's personal touch. Look at dance acts - talentless clones - every one of them. Each decent band in rock has it's own personal oddity:

Sum 41 - Asian guy in a band - unusual
Slipknot - The masks
Blink 182 - The tatoo's
Limp Biscuit - Fred's cap.
Feeder - Piano playing drummer
Muse - Matt (Lead vocals / keyboard) = falseto soprano
Coldplay - Now entering the dance scene (BURN IN HELL, COLDPLAY!)
Nirvana - Cobain dead, legacy continues.
Papa Roach - Angst ridden hurt sounding songs.
The White Stripes - Redneck sound.

So, slipknot's wear masks, but thats just to stop them becoming dance music style clones

Yeah IMO, Coldplay are overhyped arse, they are dull and depressing, and seemingly dead at the moment, where the hell are they? Not that I care, they are like The Verve, overhyped and dull, just in my opinion of course.

Coldplay are abit dull, I brought their album cos I liked a couple of songs on it but it is a bit samey.

But IMO Verve are one of the bands of the 90's, sure some of their music may be a bit depressing but it is very good music.

But then again I guess music is all about opinouns and IMO Oasis are the greatest band ever well in the 90's neway, their later stuff stank! Give me a copy of Defintly Maybe or Whats the Story Morning Glory, A few Stellas and 20 Marlobor Lights and im sorted.....Lovley!

Slipknot - Left Behind

I bought it because I listened to it on MTV2, what a great song! Melodic and powerful, along with Chop Suey a different class of single.

And no, I'm not really a fan. Mudvayne and Gwar are also awesome, in my opinion.

Right to those narrow minded ***** who slag DJ for being "Talentless" I challenge YOU to make a good dance record that will make a crowd go wild with euphoria. I'd like to hear you mix and match beats add pitch treble and bass with a melody send the correct sounds to the correct corners of the dancefloor and produce something that people actually like!

Maybe DJ's don't play conventional instuments but they use the sounds from them and mix them together to produce magic for people to dance to erratically or to sit and chill to or to send you into a complete smiling trance on the dance floor. All without drugs.

What rock star could give you that feeling?

Don't get me wrong I through my teenage years was an Oasis, Nirvana, Ocean Colour Scene etc.. fan and i love their music and many other Band music.
But there's more than conventional stuff modern music has a lot to offer if you just open your mind to it and go and experience it especially in a good club with a good sound and light system.

ITS NOT A TUNE ITS AN EXPERIENCE

So stop being so narrow minded express YOUR opinions but don't put down others.

Cheers

Mark, come on... don't be so naive... its a gimmick.... its a selling point, a way of trying to market them... its nothing but a gimmick...

its shouldn't be on the look of the band, it should be what you like...

Slipknot wouldn't be anywhere, without the stage act or the mask...

controversy sells.

the best way to judge a band is not by video or look, its by listening to the music and you'd be suprised how many bands out there sounded like Slipknot before, and will sound like them once they've vanished... there is only so much of one gimmick people will take.

I mean, they changed there masks for Iowa's release (all be it, a bit of a new lick of paint mostly) because people were too used to the old ones...

its not to be different to not be stale, its to be different to sell

There is being a DJ and there is making a dance tune

making a dance tune is pretty easy, all you need is a computer and an ear for pitch...

DJing is a total other skill. It is fairly skilled but I challenge you to listen to your Pete Tong's (its cockney rhyming slang for a reason people !!) then go out there and listen to the likes of DJ Roli Rho, Cut Chemist, Mix Master Mike, Scratch Perverts, Xecutioners, Prime Cuts (a member of the Scratch Perverts, I know), DJ Shadow... they do stuff that is beyond DJing.... its a whole other art to mixing, which is pretty simple stuff when you have an ear for music...

they're is no arguing that most dance music out there is pretty formulaic and you can't really tell one tune from another...

With Dance, people like individual tunes, and not a group of tunes from an artist, which is why normally dance artists albums don't sell well.

There are the odd exceptions like Groove Armada, Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Basement Jaxx etc... but they are the leftfield of dance that command a cross market section of listeners, and are doing something different with there music, nothing formulaic like Phats and Small...

and come on... So Solid Crew... how pants are they....

they're rhymes are terrible and the stuff they sing about... come on lads... you aren't from the ghetto, live with it...

and Oxide... dear me... Wigga or WHAT?
