My dog is allowed wherever she likes. She gets invited on the bed in the morning but she doesn't sleep on it at night...its my one compromise with OH

If you don't like my dog, then you aren't really welcome in my world!

Is this mad? I like animals and have pets in the house, but I would never let them take priority.”

Im quite happy to sit on the floor if the dog/cat is having a sit down and is having a sleep.

I share my double bed with the dog, i dont mind that he is happy and im nice and warm, i wouldnt have it any other way.

nope, i dont let my pets rule my life, dogs stay on the floor, no matter what, they are below us in the pecking order and thats what they understand IMO. my cat is allowed on the sofa, but nowhere in the kitchen except on the floor, and no pets are allowed upstairs.

my fish tanks do however rule my entire living room, but that doesnt count at least they dont leave hair and paw prints on the sofa, and dont spread germs about on kitchen work surfaces and tables.

We have two CKCS, they are not allowed out of the kitchen/family room. However when we are in the house during the daytime/evening we stay in there with them. My wife does not work so this is the majority of the time. They are not allowed to roam the house or on furniture and definately not in the bedrooms.

We have not had a holidays overseas since having them and only stay in dog friendly cottages in the UK. A dog should know its place.

There's three skunks in this living room somewhere. I haven't seen them since their dinner time. I probably won't see them until dinner time tomorrow.
I have to say they are the most reclusive pets we have!

Have you read this back?

I'm not sure if you were being intentionally ironic or not, but I loved it anyway!

If my cat is on the sofa i'll sit on the floor, and if he's in my bed i will curl myself around him so as not to disturb him

My boyfriend's mother's dog growls at either herself or her husband when they go up to bed and it's sleeping on there. She seems to find it hilarious! Personally if I had a dog which did that I'd tell it off and shut it downstairs, but each to their own I suppose.

Our cat now seems to have claimed an armchair as its own which I'm fine with since we rarely use it anyway and it at least restricts the moulted fluff to one area so it's easier to vacuum up. I don't like having it on the bed though, the thought of a bare cat bum on my pillow really grosses me out and I can't stand the hair.

Other than certain rules like 'Not being allowed on the Kitchen Top' & 'Plucking the Carpet' The house is pretty much his.

If he is sat on the couch i will sit elsewhere and he always gets what he wants when he wants, he's a very happy cat.
He's a cheeky get though, whenever i get up for 1 minute to go to the toilet or grab something to eat he settles into my warm seat instantly.

Our cats have the free roam of the house. They have sleeping bags as beds. One likes going for a nap in the afternoon but not on anything pink. They all go on the sides settees where ever they want. The only time i do shut them out of the living room is when i want to open the patio doors mine are mostly indoor cats. If i fall asleep i usualy find one of the kittens asleep on my side. I woke up this morning cuddling one. We dont care they are a part of our family. The kids love them we love them they love the kids. We have 15

My two cats can roam all over the house and one usually sleeps with me at night ( the other is banned from my room at night as he wakes me up too early), They are not allowed on the kitchen counters or table but despite telling them off and removing them from the said items for the last two years they still do it!

I don't think that my cat does dominate my home - we share it. There is enough seating in the living room that she can choose where she sleeps and it doesn't matter to me. There's nowhere that she isn't allowed (actually, that's not true because she's not allowed in the loft, but that's because she gets scared up there!) and we rub along just fine. She knows that she will get fed when I get out of bed and never wakes me up demanding food. Although ...

I do have to make sure that I get to bed before her, otherwise she will stretch out along the bed in the most inconvenient position, and I have to try and squeeze round her. It is amazing how much bed one small cat can occupy

Sounds like you have a similar relationship with your cat that I have with mine, except mine loves the loft. Once she mastered the art of getting back down, I let her stay up there if she comes up when I am having a sort out. I think she likes the fact that it doesn't smell of other cats. I have the bed problem sometimes too. Thankfully she usually gets up to do a last inspection before settling down next to me. She needs to check that I have shut the windows before she is happy. I don't feel the need to ban her from anywhere. She is quite good and very rarely gets on the kitchen counters and hardly ever sits on the sofa or armchair.

My dog and cat sleep wherever they like, although the dog is not allowed on the sofa as I want to have SOME boundaries.

At this moment in time, the cat is fast asleep in the dog's bed, and the dog is in my bed with her head on the pillows and body under the quilt

we overpaid to buy the flat we were renting because at the time one of our elderly cats (both RIP now) was ill and we thought he'd probably not do well if we moved. We didn't see it any differently as a decision made around kids, kids' schools catchment areas etc.
The only no-go was that, until they were very old and sick, they got locked in the lounge/kitchen at night or I didn't get any sleep.
They were our family. It all seemed normal to us. Now they are both gone, the place looks like a bad buy and I'd like to move!

Dog goes where she chooses. Spends most of her time curled up on a sofa, asleep as she's elderly. I have dark colour leather furniture so it's easy to wipe and the claws don't ruin anything.

She has a routine where she comes upstairs in the morning and sleeps on the bed, after we've got up. I think as that is the sunniest room in the house. Cat always sleeps up there with her. They are both old ladies - cat is 15, dog is 10 - so they curl up together. They both normally get up at mid morning or even occasionally, mid day and will wander down for a bit. Dog asks if she wants to go anywhere - scratches at door. I'm the one who paints the paintwork so it's no-one else's problem! Not that noticeable though.

And i keep angora bunnies so they need a lot of grooming - 99% of which happens in the living room. So we have fluff everywhere.

I also have a huge fishtank in the living room. Usually has 2 inmates but since Barry died a few months back, brian lives alone for now. It's about 5 foot long the tank and we normally have no more than 3 goldfish - more often, we have 2 at a time. So that dominates the room in looks and also the sound (2 filters and air bubble running).

My kids make way more mess and disruption than any of the pets.

Our dog always gets upon the bed to nuzzle my husband goodnight and then goes to her own bed. I got into bed a few nights ago and received several loving pats and strokes before he turned over and continued snoring!

Our dog is pampered and spoiled, particularly by my husband to whose left hip she is almost permanently joined.

Our pets would struggle to follow us round the house as they are snails Seriously though, we used to have a dog and no she wasn't allowed run of the house although she would always try to dominate. She wasn't allowed on the furniture and she slept in the hallway.

The pets are allowed wherever they like, but if I want to sit where they've made themselves comfy, I will move them. Sure the cat will give me a quick nibble if I dare move her, but I'm almost immune to it now The dog is fine, you can just look at her and she'll slope off, no trouble at all - mind you we have to shut her out the living room when we're not in. She's torn up several net curtains jumping up at the window before now.

I let them in my room when I'm in there, but my cat is an absolute menace, if it's not nailed down she'll play with it - sometimes I swear she just pushes ornaments off to watch my reaction. So I make sure my door is shut when I'm not there, and I don't leave my door open at night either. Bella (the cat) has no qualms about jumping on me at four in the morning and playing with whatever limbs of mine that aren't tucked in.

So no, for my own sanity, I can't let them rule the house. They have freedom to roam, but I'm boss and they both know it.
