What is more powerful - Ireland or teenage girls?
Cause that's what it all comes down to.

Acts that only cater to a specific demographic will only get so far; as I said elsewhere, The X-Factor is won and lost on the basis of the casual vote. Eoghan topped the vote for most of the contest, for example, but he didn't stand a chance when it came to the final, when all the casual viewers voted.

Every year someone bleats on about the Scottish, Welsh or Irish vote in these TV talent contests. Its total nonsense and you know it!
Irish vote - population 6.2 million (whole island) London - 7.5 + million Scotland and Wales have even smaller populations. |

Have you seen Brian De Palma's film CARRIE? There's your answer.

The problem I see with this is that in Ireland, there are probably very many teenage girls also, lol. Plus, in Wand Directions favour, there are a few to choose from in the group, as opposed to not every teenage girl ever fancying Eoghan.
I think the teenage vote would be the more powerful. Hormones would win out. |

I dont get this Irish vote crap. I live in Ireland and dont know one person who has voted for Mary. In fact, most people I know are sick of her and agreed with Dannii's comments about her basically singing the same song every week.

I didn't realise Ireland could vote on X factor, DS being educational!
Tesco are still hammering hard the 'vote for our Mary' line, but honestly, if she doesn't take some chances soon I think lots of people will get a bit bored. |

I must admit that I wasn't aware that Ireland and teenage girls were in competition with each other. Where does that leave a teenage girl who happens to be Irish?

Regonal voting can make a difference between winning and losing or the difference in placings IF there is also a sufficient level of support outside the region.
So if say there were 10 acts still in and someone was in 2nd or 3rd place voting wise outside the region a strong regonal vote could see them through to the top place but it couldn't if they were in say the bottom three outside that region (unless the voting was very close). |

Neither. The housewives and students voting for Matt will defeat all.

Teenage voting definitely.
Ireland has no more of an impact than England, Scotland, or Wales. We're certainly all not voting for Mary. Only 400,000 on average watch X Factor in Ireland. God knows what percentage of that actually vote, but I doubt it's too big. There's teenagers here voting for One Direction as well

Don't forget Tesco. A few thousand £ worth of votes is nothing out of their marketing budget.

The op has slightly missed the point here, if he is suggesting that the Irish vote and the teen girl are the strongest wouldn't it stand to reason that they most votes would go to Wand Erection which has the double whammy of being a boy band with an Irish lad in it (Niall)?
